Anyone any good at creating websites? I am looking at getting a layout simply to journal my life for family and stuff abroad. I have no idea how to create a website. So if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also have my own domain so only need the layout.

Tons of different themes and layouts you can install, so there is bound to be one that meet you needs.

It's pretty easy to customise yourself any way, if you want to change the layout a little.

Or you can create a layout in Photoshop and code that to work with wordpess.

Far more involved then sticking a generic theme on there

Hehe, see what you mean seek, I personally love the design, like all the colours, however, it's still not right, I want more pages than just the main to post on, I want a photo side as well to upload albums to.

Back to work lol.

Downloading other themes so I can have more pages, this one is very restrictive lol. Doesn't seem that there are many options to customise the site, is this down to theme? Or just wordpress in general?

Down to theme.

Try themeforest for other theme ideas. They are fairly cheap for what you get.

Is it possible for wordpress to be more than just a blogging site then? Because it seems, anything more than a blogging theme and im looking at spending money.

That's fairly accurate. WP is still blogging software. But the potential is there for it to be a great CMS. I'm developing a corporate site with it now.

To tap it's potential it does require a bit of work. This is in-part what most themes charge for, but they add a lot more too.

Think yourself lucky you get wordpress itself free! ;)

Just kidding, but in all seriousness, the people that write the plugins dont charge a lot for the functionality they give.

I used to pirate/steal loads of things from the web in my younger days. Now that I develop myself, I tend to buy or donate to anything that I think is really well made.

Because wordpress is so widespread in its use, the plugins stay cheap as the author should be able to make the money through volume sales.

you need to look at plugins..
nextgen gallery for pictures perhaps? You can put a custom menu in the sidebar area for menu. loads you can do, but you need to delve a bit deeper with wordpress....
enjoy!
