Working on a personal/internal site redesign at the moment. Just trying to bring it into the web 2.0 world a bit and make the content a bit more dynamic and interesting rather than just blocks of text in the same place on every page.

There's not much else to say other than to show the mock-ups! I've just done 3 pages at the moment (home, packages and stills gallery) to show a 'typical' 1/2/3 column layout that could be used. Packages page is very HTC inspired :p.

Anyway, C&C greatly appreciated :).

Really like it - made me actually read all three pages of content where as on your current site I can't be bothered clicking on any of the links. It's weird, I'm just don't feel engaged with your current site but the mock-ups of your new ones has really interesting pieces of content at the top that makes me want to keep reading... and the rest is interesting! (despite the fact I'm not planning on getting married :))

No criticism from me at all. Looking pretty good!
 
Cheers Roy. As you say, I want the content to be more interesting so it's great that you thought as much.

I also started the design from Google Analytics firstly as we currently have a fair bit of content in a load of pages which hardly anyone ever visits:

I've basically took those pages and put them in the top bar, and the rest I've stuck in the footer so the content's still there for SEO/if people want to dig a bit, otherwise it makes the popular content a bit more obvious and less cluttered. Or at least that's the plan!
 
Can't fault you with your logic there my friend.

Classic case of good research with great execution - just hope it pays off for you and there's not a post here of me forever eating my own words! :)

Only thing i'd say is that if you're looking to make it more dynamic and "web 2.0", and want to continue your good work with Google analytics, then make sure you add the tracking scripts to your JavaScript links in your pages etc. I'm pretty sure you can get it to track clicks on your HTML anchors etc even when it doesn't change page.

Will be handy for your next Web 3.0 redesign ;)

But seriously, if people don't think it has the 'wow' factor, please feel free to say :). I know it's hard to comment on things that you can't put your finger on but any comments even without a reason/constructive suggestion would be appreciated!
 
Probably way off ;).

Clean designs, intuitive UI, fluid content, minimal navigation, using JS to help achieve this, and generally having a few of the design trends associated with new sites.

What's yours? :p
 
the grey background is too dark imo.

where is your chat online going to go?

perhaps a tad too much text shadow making the text slightly fuzzy but maybe that will improve with a lighter background.

Ok, I might try a lighter shade. I did want to maybe stay away from #fff though.

I don't know why, but the online chat thing hardly ever gets used apart from our friends messing about pretending to be couples having nudist ceremonies. So based on that we're probably just going to drop it.

Yeah, the text shadowing is possibly a bit too much but I wasn't really paying much attention to that as the look of it will change completely when it's CSS rather than in PS anyway.
 
ah didn't even realise it was only an image.

yeah i've noticed very similar. thought customers would jump at the chance to use the chat thing especially over weekends and in evening however they aren't. i just use it atm to see when a customer is on our site and what they're doing so if they call i can know what they're after and where they're from before they've even said hello.
 
Ah, I prefer that.

I'm all for trying to stay away from white backgrounds but I think it works well. Hey, it's a wedding website after all :)

Also, for your own benefit you should look at getting up a master page when designing in any graphic package. Stops the consistent objects (like your header and your logo) moving around when comparing pages and also means that you'll only have one set of positions to work off when you get around to creating your HTML, rather than 3 different pages with 3 slightly different menu and logo positions :)
 
Just for those interested (Roy :p), I've pretty much completed the build now: http://new.idoweddingfilms.co.uk/

Changed a few things as I was going compared to the mockup, but I always tend to do that with internal work :p.

Anyway, as usual thoughts etc would be appreciated. Tested in IE7, FF, Chrome and Safari but if anyone spots anything crazy looking let me know.

Good work. Loving the site and the video is awesome!

Only thing I would say is that you may want to change the Vimeo settings for the video to take out the links to your other vids, as when it's finished you get a link taking you to a video about dumper trucks and a guy making cider :)
 
Big thumbs up for the quick contact form and huge vimeo. Love it. Plus the overlapping design; the badge top left is cool.

Could you throw me the code for the quick contact formatting? Haven't messed with 2.0 stuff, used to css formatting for my forms..

Like the design, though I don't know if I'd say it had 'wow factor' per se. Also, the shadow on the body text, and indeed the pixel font, aren't my cup of tea - but that's down to your tastes.

Most importantly - did that bald guy marry that blonde girl? :eek:

What you after specifically? The site is "as you see it", ie no PHP, so you should be able to see everything you need.

The body text doesn't have a shadow anymore so you may have been viewing the old mockup.

And yes. He was rich. Very rich :p.
