So, I've got a few weddings to attend in the near future and just RSVP'd to an invitation for one, where it suggested politely the idea of wedding gifts. This had completely slipped my mind, having not attended a wedding as an adult yet.

I dropped the chap in question a text to see if there's anything that would help, but got a very humble reply.

So, GD/OcUK I once again turn to you for advice and nonsense:

Any ideas on suitable 'generic' wedding presents?

Money? I'm going to a wedding in July and they've just asked for money as they already live together and have stuff they need. They just said if anyone wants to buy, they can put a few quid in a card for their honeymoon. They've also given a charity you can donate to if you want to instead.

^^^ this - better off giving money so they can buy something they actually like...as opposed to something that they will re-gift!

Either that or John Lewis or Homebase vouchers etc.

Means you don't have to worry about remembering/carrying the present as well - just need the card!

Money!.

when me and my wife got married we were living together already and i found a poem on internet that was basically a cool was of telling people to give us money. I think we got like £2500 for the honeymoon so that was nice :)

A playful punch on the shoulder of the groom and a cheeky slap across the brides arse should be all that's required.

You've giving them the gift of your presence at their big day - what more do they want?

EDIT: I'd like to point out that until tonight I hadn't had an alcholic drink for 4 years but tonight I've discovered I quite like red apple cider!

I am at a age when a lot of my friends are getting married so when I see something in sale in a department store I stock up a few for the next couple of wedding I have to attend lol.

I bought a couple of these the last time I was in a house of fraser as they where 60% off at the time:

They last guy I gave it to was really happy with it.

Odd. Just get them a sandwich toaster then - everyone else will be too scared of the cliché to do it!

A friend of mine once had a boss, at whose wedding every guest conspired and bought the couple a toaster. Everyone spent as much as they wanted and bought a toaster commensurate with that price, so some got them an Argos Value toaster and others got them some high end Dualit thing. Then they all gave them gift receipts.

Cue lots of trips to the shops to get some store credit and buy something they actually wanted, rather than a house full of dozens of toaster.

I would give them something that would give them a useful chioce of gifts so a John Lewis gift voucher would fit the bill.

These days i would, without a list, Just give them Cash.. It can be seen as a bit of a taboo present by some people but what would you rather have, a 3rd sandwich toaster or 50 quid you can spend on a holiday or credit card bills for the wedding ? :)

Christ, must be a season for it or something - wedding drinks, wedding cigars and now wedding gifts. Just waiting for OcUK's own "Don't Tell the Bride" show - Spec me a wedding :D
