Wee bit of help needed.

Upgraded in steps, and basically my old rig is now another rig, but when i've went to start it up it wont go into windows, BSOD, followed by a reset, but its far too quick to read what it says.

It does start up in safe mode though, and all hardware seems to be in working order.

Thing is, i went from a 939 system to a 775, and its a bit of a mess as it needs to go back to the 939 setup.

I think its a BIOS problem. The comptuer is detecting the Intel BIOS somewhere, but i don't know where it is, and i can't flash the BIOS using the 939 (Epox) tool as it doesn't recognise the old BIOS, so where is it?

I thought the BIOS was stored on the mobo only, but surely this reckons its also on the HD somewhere, is that how it works?

I know a clean sweep is in order to sort this out, and one will come, but the computer is now needed for some rather urgent work, and i need it working in the next 24 hours for someone.

Wait a minute, you swapped the mobo from socket 939 to socket T and left your software just as it was? If so, it's probably barfing all over itself because it's trying to use the chipset drivers (among others) for the old board on the new board. You could swap back to the old mobo, nuke all the drivers, then swap back but I don't think it's worth the time. You'd probably spend two hours doing that.

The quicker thing to do would be to do a repair installation of Windows. It'll keep your files intact, only replacing the files related to the OS. Some programs will need to be reinstalled but your documents will be untouched.

You'll probably have to reactivate Windows too, so have a telephone handy.
 
Aye basically, its a mess, but i did clear it, not just leave it, but i didn't clear it when my new 775 setup was in, so parts will remain. Bugger, never thought of it at the time.

The change from 939 to 775 went well, drivers taken off, new ones on, but vice versa hasn't worked at all.

Getting XP for it, but it will be some time, was hoping for a quick fix. :(
 
Getting some HD video off a camera (via Firewire), then made into a DVD for an xmas prezzie.

Its of my son being made by my dad for my nana.

My old computer i've just sold to the old man for a new 8800GTS, he can get a copy of XP from work, but it will take 10 days, i might be able to get a copy of Vista from Uni, although i've already asked and received one product key, i doubt they'll give me another, so i'm going to try and blag some class mate that doesn't need Vista.
 
My best bet probably is a clean sweep, and it will be done, but it there is a quick and simple solution then that would be great, but don't worry yourself if its a massive head case of a job. :D
 
If you go to uni check and see if there's a Mac lab on campus. If there is, they'll most likely have iMovie installed. You could then use this to capture the video via Firewire, edit it appropriate, and burn it to DVD. It's pretty intuitive to use so you wouldn't have to learn much. It's a better solution that Windows Movie Maker in a pinch.

Cheers, but i doubt my place has anything like that. Just got entrance cards for the common rooms, half the computers either don't work or have something missing, the vending machines are empty and don't give change, the windows don't open, there's never any paper, so i very much doubt they have sometihng that advanced!

Also i'm outsourced to a local college, its closer and the degree is piled into 2 days instead of being spread out.

I've never even been in my actual Uni campus yet! :D
