I got a "new" motherboard but I have 2 questions.
1. Should the box have been sealed? My gfx card had a tamper seal on it but the motherboard did not.
2. Should the cpu socket have had some sort of cover over it?

Reason I ask is my gigabyte mono came with neither of the above.

Thanks

It would be very odd if an unopened board came without tamper seal/plastic film or CPU socket cover. So the likely answer it's been opened and briefly used. Your new board order may have been mixed up with a B-grade ready for someone else, for example, during packing. Or that's how it came from manufacturer after slipping past quality control. If you state the model, then other owners can confirm.

All Intel based motherboards should definately have a socket cover to protect the pins. Most, if not all motherboard manufacturers would reject a board returned for RMA without a socket cover as well. Can you see any damage to the pins? I would be in two minds about sending that back for a replacement. Maybe you got someone elses return.

I've been told it might have been used by build department and restocked. It's going back later today.
I was concerned that it wasn't sealed in any way Woidl have expected it wrapped in celophane (like my psu) or a sticky tab to hold it closed like my gfx had. This was open.

glad its going back.

if i paid for a new item and it had been opened, used and then put back in to stock i would have asked for a discount or return it.
