 I've been down that road a few times, imagine seeing a car go past you in the other direction at that speed :o

172 on a motorway i can 'kinda' undertstand, but on a country road  he must have a death wish.

The road in question is the the A420 Oxford - Swindon road and although it is single carriageway most of the way the place he was caught speeding is actually dual carriageway.

out of interest is this some kinda record? i know there was a guy that got away with dangerious driving doing 140 in a NSX near cardiff a while back, and the copper doing 160ish and that nutty guy trying to do 200 on the a1 (and getting politely asked the leave the contry)... but i don't remeber anyone getting done for speeding at such a high speed - has anyone topped this?

I think 172mph will be the highest speed someone has been caught doing in Britain. I may be wrong though.

Didn't know the M3 bloke got 5 months, saw on a tv program he got a year ban and £3000 fine :(

I heard this on the radio aswel. Thats some speed. I never knew helphire hired out 911 Turbo's. I thought i did well to get a Passat Estate 1.9TDI out of them! haha

we should chip in for rental of a zzr1400 and nominate someone with a deathwish from the forum to do the limited 186mph

OCUK could make the record books ! :D

I feel quite sorry for the guy as it goes. A guy caught at 156 in his M3 served five months in prison, so this person might suffer similar. Six months seems like a long time for just a minute's excitment :(

Don't feel too sorry for him, he'd taken the car without permission from his company. To be fair, he then walked in and resigned before he got fired.

penski would do it if you paint it satin black and put it on pram wheels so that the fairing is scrapping up the tarmac

Depends if they push for a DD charge i think. If he'd had a car without road tax he'd have gone down for a 5 stretch.
