Morning wonderful people :)

I'm heading to Northumberland to see my sister next week and I'm after suggestions on locations for photography.

I don't mind travelling and looking ideally after landscape options.

Suggestions?

So many places. Cheviots, the entire coast, plenty of castles, Simonside.
What do you prefer snapping?

We often go to Seahouses/Bamburgh, stunning coastline and impressive castle. Also boat trips out to the Farne Islands to see the seals and various birds if that's what you like.

Short drive to Holy Island to see Lindisfarne Castle and Priory.

Well I'll be in Bamburgh and I've seen on the map Bambugh Castle. I'm after landscapes as I want a chilled out holiday with a little walking.

Some great suggestions already, will do some research into travelling between base and the locations above!

Could also look in to heading through Ingram valley. You can drive a large part of the way, the best bits are all on foot though.

FYI - Beach at Bamburgh will be closed this weekend. They're doing some kind of filming on it, with moving vehicles and low flying drones.

Go to dunstanburgh for sunrise :)

I wont be there till next weekend, hopefully they'd of finished by then! That's a cracking shot mate, like that a lot!

Cragside near Rothbury, the first house in the UK to be electrically lit. You'll get some nice snaps down by the river in Rothbury too. If you have time try to squeeze in a visit to the Kielder Observatory. You'll get some good shots over the reservoir too.

You've got the Hadrian Wall, nice walk and a bit of scenery too.

Second Kielder, a great drive out too.

Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's wall... Where Robin Hood (The Kevin Costner one) went on his way from Dover to Nottingham. I think he got a bit lost.

Cheers - if you do go there, those rocks are smooth and slippery (not that you can really see them) - hundreds of fairly round boulders, between 1-2' in diameter, covered in slime. So be careful.

spoilt for choice up here, to be honest. if you have the kit and the inclination, got to Keilder/Otterburn on a clear night, the night sky will knock your eyes out.

I don't mind travelling to a location but would prefer to keep it to less than 1 hour in total. I can see myself going through a substantial about of fuel lol

Definitely Ingram Valley. One of my favourite places in the country. Most of the north-Northumberland to Scottish Borders is great and is especially pretty in the setting sun.

Seahouses itself is pretty dull (said as he's typing away at work in Seahouses), but it's an excellent gateway to other places (obviously the Farne Islands and Bamburgh in particular). The Seahosues-Bamburgh beach walk is decent and it's much quieter than most attractive beaches.

I've seen on the map you can get a ferry to the islands but it only seems to be the smaller one. Can you get to the larger nature reserve?

Basically if you go west/north-west from Alnwick you'll see stunning scenery wherever you go. Head towards Rothbury and you'll pass the ruins of Edlingham Castle (just turn up, it's free and you're likely to be the only people there), then over the Alnwick moors and the rolling hills of Rothbury and beyond.

Head from Alnwick to Chatton (through Eglingham) and you'll see some wonderful valleys views.

Personally I love to go out for a drive around the myriad of minor roads around Whittingham, and as I said before Ingram Valley.

Basically anywhere west to north-west of Alnwick is a photographers delight, especially in late afternoon sun and just before dusk.

Up the main hill at Ingram Valley, looking down on the river from the track to the Roman fort (ignore the terribly slanted horizon - it's straight from my camera).
