Weekend city break recommendations

I'm looking at taking the mrs away for a short weekend in November. We'll be going without the kids, so we're very restricted time-wise. It will only be for 2 nights, so I don't want to be flying for more than 2 hours from Gatwick/Heathrow, otherwise that just eats into what little time we have away.

I also don't want to go anywhere where there's lots to see/do (as we'd save that for another trip when we have more time), so that rules out places like Paris, Rome, Barcelona etc.

We've been to Ljubljana, Verona and Budapest before, so those are ruled out.

Any recommendations? Possible options so far are Amsterdam, Oslo and Prague.
 
Do you need to go abroad if you're not interested in lots of seeing/doing?

Just go somewhere quiet and rural. Cotswolds maybe?

Agreed but we didn’t like Amsterdam too much, it’s ok I guess, Copenhagen was great as was Vienna, both have good “fun” parks if that is of interest.

Barcelona was good, we did a devour tour there which is only a few hours but was really good, we did the private tour though which I would advise, you can see a fair bit of the city in a short time.

Why travel and not see anything?
 
Somewhere without lots to do is a pretty broad specification :p.

I hear Belfast is lovely at this time of year.

Or closer to home I believe there's basically nothing to see in Horsham.
 
If you just want something quiet we had a few days in Spain. Not the touristy thing. Where we went was Los Barios right at the south. You could see the Atlas Mountains from there.
 
I'm not saying we don't want to see anything (and hey, what's wrong with Horsham? :D). What I meant was I'd rather go somewhere smaller where we could see the majority of the city, rather than only see <50% of a larger city and be forced to either miss the rest, or go back.

Longer travel time, but you can Eurostar to Bruges in 3.5 hours. Its pretty small and everything is walking distance, great place.
 
For a smaller city I'd suggest Prague - most of the main "sights" are within a fairly small area (Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, etc) - its become our go-to "foreign" short break if we just want a few days to relax.

I'd also second the earlier suggestion of Belfast - really friendly city - not expensive - loads of flights (fly into Belfast City if you can - only 10-15 mins in a taxi to the City Centre) - small city with things to see!
