****Weekend Football Fixtures - 10-11th January 09 SPOILERS****

weird result for me (Toon)

Chuffed we salvaged the game

But we should have won

Two games away at Blackburn? and City could chuck us right back down into the bottom 3:(

BaZ - Have you seen much of our reserves of late? Time for Spearing to step up and compete with Lucas?

I have and we've been playing just as well as last season but with Nemeth being out we can't score for ****.

As for Spearing; the guy's a decent player but not close to pushing for a place in our first team. He reminds me of Danny Murphy, jack of all trades master of none. He should be challenging Lucas for a place alongside Plessis in our reserves though.

edit: Pacheco on the other hand needs to build himself up in the gym because he's already good enough to be in the first team squad.

I think we can all agree (apart from maybe Arsenal fans) that this is the first time in a very long time that its been a 3 horse race even in Jan......or it seems that way so far

Long may it continue

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say, this is the firs time in ages it hasn't been a 4 horse race is what I assume, but last year, 3 horse race, liverpool were miles behind at xmas and even after awful second half of season for ARsenal, and quite a lot of points dropped by the top two there was still a large gap between pool/arse, that would be a 3 horse race right there.

Year before, Arse/Pool 68 points, Chelski 89, we were both over 20points off the mark, it was a 2 horse race that year for a long while. Year before that ARsenal weren't in it, 24 points off the top, Chelsea had a 10ish point gap and were pretty safe most of the year tbh, 3 horse race.

Year before that, Chelski 95, us 83, United 77, everton 61, Pool 58, 1 horse race, maybe include us for a 2 horse race for the title.

Year before that, pool in 4th were 30points behind us on the unbeaten year with 90points. Its mostly a 3 horse race, hasn't been a 4 horse race in, well, a long long time. With AV up there, who I think can stay there and improve, especially if they can strengthen the squad again, and not sure if Bouma is due back before the end of the year, this might be the first real 4 horse race in a long time, and you're right, its great, as long as I'm not watching Arsenal play "i can't pass" football.

Either way, ARsenal were woeful today, commentator picked out that Bolton were weak in defence and they were screwing up and Adebayor barely challenged for a header, he ALWAYS backs out of challenges, did nothing of note all game, Bendtner, yet again looked a threat literally the second he came on, till he scored a great goal you would almost never see Ade scoring as it needed you know, some bravery. Ade's one real chance he had about 45minutes to control and shoot, still let one of the slowest defenders make up 10 yards to get the block in. Utterly useless moron, not a chance in hell he'll get 30 goals this year as I've been saying. if you take out Blackburn who EVERYONE freely scored against till Ince went, thats 5 goals in the league he's score(maybe 6 by now) in half a season, what a fantastic striker

Again Eboue was taken off rather than those who truly sucked in the game, ok Diaby was finally taken off early, but Denilson and Ade were hopeless again today. RVP again did most of his good work outside the box and mostly on the right, can you guess why I think we should play him right wing, because in the advanced right wing area is where he is 90% of the match anyway. Get Vela on upfront in his best position, Bendtner as supporting striker in his best position, RVP where he's effective and stop playing Diaby.

Also for those who noticed, who question Toure's fitness/stamina, yes that WAS him in the dying minutes running the entire length of the pitch at full speed, AGAIN, trying to help get a goal in a game we couldn't score in, did he look tired? no, did he look like he'd lost a yard of pace? no, and that was him without match fitness. He's always had supreme stamina and never stops running, like Clichy, not quite the same pace, but theres entirely no sign of, injury, or stamina problems.

Arsene Wenger did.

He only watches him every game, training. But I guess you know more...

And straight after Shearer says theres little chance we will finish where we are - no wonder you arent a manager mate - you know **** all ;)

Im gonna sound like a broken record but bloody hell was that a lucky win - its definitely one of those only the big clubs can get away with so I guess we are getting there ;). I know that penalty would have been given in a lot of circumstances but I gues the decision was too big for the referee...

Im loving the formation while Carews not around - just works so well on the break, though I thought Milner was woefully underused on the right hand side - I think hes as good as A. Young, he just doesnt have the relationship with Gaby as Young does. Defence needs someone to command them and short out the frailties..

And another game Sidwell disappoints, he gets in the right area but for some reason hes got the worse bad luck ever.

BTW for once in my life Scott Carlson was Villas MotM - great OG mate considering all the crap we put up with him...

ps3ud0

Lucas was shocking today, and you have to ask if he's had his final chance now. I wouldn't want to see him in a Liverpool shirt again. We also really missed Alonso.

But Rafa has to take some of the blame. We leave our best strikers on the bench again, against weaker opposition, and fail to score. We've consistently struggled to find the back of the net this reason, why leave Torres and keen on the bench. What's he trying to prove? If I was Keane, I’d be seething by now.

.

Best young midfielder there is, one of the best in the world, his passing, fitness, workrate and finishing are ALL world class.

Thats what liverpool fans were saying, it seems a season and a bit later they are starting to agree with what the rest of the world said last season, in that he is ******* ****.

Yep, really really miss Xabi. I know how controversial this would be, but I'd love to see Arteta come to Liverpool. He's a little more attacking than Alonso, but uses the ball in a similar way and would be a great and really versatile player to have. He could do the Alonso job (if a little further forward) when Xabi's injured, or play in a similar role to Yossi or Gerrard as necessary.

Can't see it happening, but I'm just saying...

He's certainly got to take a lot of the blame. He got the decision to start Lucas wrong but what was worse was that he didn't take him off when he brought Torres on. Not starting Torres isn't an issue for me. When he's ready to start he will but we can't afford to bring him back too soon and be without him for a month.

I honestly think we'd have been better off with 10 men today than with Lucas.

Happy to take another point of Liverpool today, it was a performance and a point that was much needed for us after recent events. I have to say when i saw Liverpools initial line up I had a smile on my face, it was just the game for a player like Keane today, someone who wouldnt give our defence any time on the ball, someone to continually close us down and pressure us at the back.

We were also done a massive favour when Diao was injured before the match and had to be replaced by Whelan. When we play Diao on Faye in CM together it usually means that were just going to sit back and let the opposition try and break us down (much like we did at Anfield). However with Whelan on it made us go forward a lot more.

All in all im proud of the way we played today, I'm a little bored that we never seem to get the credit we deserve, but thats the premiership i guess. In my eyes we outplayed the team at the top of the league and still have failed to gain any credit for it. Then again, maybe im just seeing the match through rose tinted specs.

You were well organised, defended very well and played to your strengths. You didn't outplay us in anyway though. You had 3 chances, 1 of which came from a long throw, 1 a terrible kick by Reina and the other from a shocking offside decision. You created nothing from open play. You deserved your point though because we created very little despite our possession and the few chances we created we couldn't finish off.

I tell you what i am really liking the look of Van Persie at the moment.

I would love United to get rid of tevez and invest in Van Persie.

Unlikely though :(
