Weekend Football Thread 21-23 *spoilers*

A game of chess would've been more exciting than that half.

We started brightly but two quick injuries meant we had to find our feet again. Our passing has generally been good but we lack penetration. Lucas and Mascherano have both had good games so far but Gerrard doesn't look anywhere near fit enough to be on the pitch.

City, despite all the preseason talk, have been the worst team to visit Anfield so far. They've defended very well but they just keep booting it straight to Reina when they win possession and in SWP they have the worst player on the pitch by a mile.

1 goal will be enough to win this for either team.

What a truly truly awful first half, so much for two teams being desparate for a win. I'll give them a little slack in when a game is stopped at regular intervals for long gaps its harder to get into a game and pick up some pace but jesus, the total lack of quality by both sides is embarassing.

ADebayor since his little "break" has come back with all the effort he showed last season at Arsenal, thinks he can do something special, his flick over Insua then running into him, I have no idea where he thinks that flick was going with a liverpool player 5 yards behind Insua, and the goal line 5 behind him. SWP is so pathetically bad its a joke, and with no-one making runs upfront or able to control the ball Bellamy and Ireland who are genuinely good players, have no one to play off.

While I think Tevez isn't very good, at least he would run down every ball , challenge for every long ball and his runs would pull defenders around making their job difficult allowing others to play well and exploit the spaces. Robinho and Tevez/Cruz for SWP and Ade and City have a great chance to take the game, largely because liverpool are playing badly aswell and don't have anyone on the bench to change it up.

The one key thing I've not understood with Hughes, is his inability to see just how completely useless SWP is.

Do'h, just checked Robinho's not on the bench, thought he was supposed to be available today. Tevez wing for SWP and Cruz for Ade then.

I don't get it, how can most of the world see how terrible he is, but Andy Gray, Hughes, Mourinho and Capello think he's remotely good?

Hasn't even Ian Wright been known to say he's had a poor performance, I'm 90% sure I've seen him agree SWP has been crap on a few occasions, even his step-dad(or uncle, forget what he is tbh) can't defend some of his performances. Ok, they don't have a huge amount of options, but Barry is more than capable of playing left wing, Bellamy is obviously capable of playing the other side, theres plenty of better choices than SWP starting.

Theres a few players in the league that just wind you up, literally no talent at all but getting paid millions a year, Quashie was/is one of them, SWP is another, the fact he probably gets paid pretty well for England call up's aswell is almost sickening.
 
Lescott is a **** defender.

Shaun Wright Phillips has zero technical ability on the ball.
