Weekend Nazis.

Only one guy there (author chap) is on record denying the holocaust but I don't think he actually said it in the programme. I've got a load of books about WWII and I'm glad to say that this didn't write any of them.

The re-enactment guys do seem to have been infiltrated by some people with dubious political beliefs but let's not tar all of them with the same brush. There have been a few times when I have seriously thought about getting into re-enactment and yes, I would be buying a German Uniform along with a set of British BD's. Why German? It's nothing political but I've often been mistaken for being German and well, they just look so much better and that's not surprising when you consider that their uniforms where designed by Hugo Boss.

I didn't see the program but would there be the same furore if it was a communist appreciation society? Should we, in these times, not expect one sided journalism from the BBC anyway. The 'We love Joseph Stalin Society' would not even raise an eyebrow despite the fact that he was responsible for the deaths of 10 million. Quite disgusting really if you take the time to think.

So what if people decide that particular interest as a hobby, there are things I find completely distateful that are openly promoted in society so, if we are to grant ourselves the luxury of free speech then their views are as valid as any others. The simple question is, have they harmed or encouraged someone else to harm others with their views and opinions, if so, prosecute them, if not then let them be as long as they stay within the law.

Did they cross the line in the program?

I don't have a problem with people dressing up as anything. I do have issues with people thinking like the Nazi regime, though.

But remember the winning side choses who's good and bad.....

i dont think culling a load of jews blacks gypsys or mental people is decided as good ? and who said its always the wining side

(i do agree with you on some level) but the nazis or rartheer hitler didnt have everything goin for him in a good point of perspective

Some of the groups in it were known for racist attacks. There was definatley some anti semite propoganda being sold.

Fair enough, then I hope they were investigated and prosecuted if guilty.

My main concern is the style of journalism and the way such programs are used to manipulate the viewer. "OMFG, it's the Nazis!' will sell whereas "A documentary about sad gits that like collecting Nazi memorabilia" won't :)

the terminology ......awsome

You what? Let me guess, you see one prop-driven Bear-H in a tabloid and you think that's all Russia has.

Think again!

Well the Tu-160's are barely airworthy because until now Russia simply couldn't afford the maintenance. The backfires defence of flying low to avoid radar/missiles is now obsolete the Bears are really the only bombers Russia has that are actually useful unfortunately Radar picks them up easily.

The Su-27 Flankers are easily beaten. A few weeks ago a flight of Flankers from India landed in the UK to conduct exercises, unbeknownst to them a few days earlier a USAF electronic surveillance plane landed at the same base the flankers would be operating out of, its mission was to detects the radar frequencies of the flankers because if you know what it is their radars are useless. The MiG 29 isn't the potent fighter it once was the EF2000 and F-22 are more than a match for them.

Her navy is a joke the submarines are old ill maintained and more of a hazard to the crews than to anyone else. Russia cannot scrape the fighters together to embark a full air-wing on a carrier let alone gain air superiority.

A Conscript army with the highest desertion and suicide rates in the developed world and tanks that are inferior compared to the MBT of the NATO nations.

So far Russia's nuclear weapons are the only real threat.

Yes I did think.

A few years ago I went back to a workmates house and he showed me around.
Of course he went straight past a door and I wouldn't let it lie all night until he showed me.
He swore me to secrecy and said he had a fascination but in no way did he believe.
He opened the door and it was like a museum.
He reckoned he's got £30,000 worth of Nazi memorabilia:eek:
After all these years I still haven't told a soul and I have to wonder if his best mate who is an Asian knows.

Wasn't that on Father Ted?

I meant, had the Nazi's have won and still be in power now.... you'd be brain washed into accepting what they did was "necessary" or something. I know what I meant.... I didn't mean they were justified in their actions at all. I was saying had they have won....

ever get the feeling that they put this on TV so older people / people who don't go out on a weekend will watch it

it's all about ratings, what would you rather watch

Weekend Nazis or X-Factor

No contest really

Re inacting a german unit, ok a Panza unit of the SS, not great, but all 99% of them were doing was driving around, walking in mud and getting drunk at night. Infact most of the 'OMG' comments came from when they had all been drinking into the night, and who here hasnt talked utter rubbish when 9 pints have gone past there lips! or made a joke about someone you wouldnt really want all over TV?

But i like the fact the presenter was so upset over the fact they were selling nazi propergande leafleats with lines of, so this is what freespeach is all about. Lets make a TV program about it showing how bad they are driving around and making about 5-6 comments over a whole weekend...

Lets not concentrate on what other groups are doing where they train kids to strap C4 to themselfs and blow up a market stall or 3, nah, dont go near that, lets go for the easy targets of drunken men at 2am talking rubbish...

About right for the BBC. Losing respect for these people very quickly in my eyes.
