Weekly Challenge : Decay

* Topic : Decay

* Start Date : Sunday 1st April

* End Submission Date: Monday 9th April (because people might go somewhere kool for bank holiday and not be able to get their shots up till afterwards)

This *isn't* a competition , its to see what different takes on a subject people can have and how everybody perceives a subject differently - Also some fun

I think a lot of people would like to have a focus to look out for something to take pictures of rather than random shoots.

Then we can discuss these photos through the week which gives some more interesting views and comments etc.

* submit the photo once with only cropped no other tweaking, and below it one with some manipulation

so lets see how it goes, as its the first week we can discuss how well it works, and whether or not we should submit the two photos ideas etc all input welcome

I took one today which I like but couldn't think how to post it, I think it fits this theme nicely, however It's a day early (sorry).

This is one I took a couple of months ago. It's an old canal lock gate outside my dads cottage. It has been neglected for about 60-70 years and has been left to decay ever since. I'd love to get another composition of it but I'm not going back hom until the 12th by which time this challenge will be over

The colours in the rotting wood are fantastic, I love that

also, I feel it enhances the edges, the increase in colour range just makes the details stand out!

Thanks, the second one is a HDR.
When I'm next home in a couple of weeks I'll try to get the shot again and try to properly expose it this time. I'll post my results.

wow although the black en white one is good because you can see the depth, the colour ones are absolutely beautiful

and helium_junkie, like the rust,i personally would like to see some close up shots of some bits for example

edit : Lets scrap the two images thing just put whatever up and how ever many you feel suitable up, cuz its not a competition so theres no rules

also lets try and make this thing about working to the subject rather than posting past pictures although put them up too so as to be more of a challenge,
but i reckon it will be good to have constraints in one way, and maybe gets you used to working to something for a competition
what do you reckon?

This sounds a lot like assignments set at uni/college you eeer studying photography or something Pixielady

no no, never studied photography actually complete amature (obvious by my photies

) but I'm keen to learn more.
well i want to become a teacher, so i'm pleased you said that i'm a natural assignment setter! w00t!

is it a negative or positive comment that it will keep people busy???

Lol, awesome, positive comment of course ! I often want to do photography obviously and this will give me somet to work for and get the old grey matter going

True, the start date is Sunday and all, but this isn't a competition so I thought it'd be ok to post an old shot that I thought fit the theme, just for discussion really. I have every intention of posting more taken today and during the week. I'll edit that one to mark it as an old shot, not part of the challenge
