Looking to buy a weights bench so I can do all my weights at home. How much do I really need to spend? Are the £50 ones just going to fall apart? I weigh about 73kg, lets say 80 in case I put on a lot of weight through muscle or growth at some point. My weights come up to 20kg, so a nice round 100kg is all it really needs to support.

Ideally I'd like a bench that can turn into a straight back chair so I can do sitting weights.

Basically, all I really want to know is how much am I looking at spending for a decent quality one that will last a few years, can support 100kg, and that can alter the angle of the back?

I will wait for others to suggest decent benches but you would really want atleast 150kg+ as the capacity on the bench unless you intend to keep using 10kg dumbells which you will grow out of, if you havent already.

You would want calipers for the bench as well, spin locks are a pain unless you just use the same weight all the time.

I reckon it will cost you a lot more than you think, there is cheap ones then theres the proper equipment. I'd say your better joining a gym money wise but if you can afford it.

I'm only going to need it for 2 years max as I'll be going to uni after 6th form, in which time I'll probably only go up to about 15kg on each arm max, as I only really want average muscles, it's more for maintainence of their current size.

I'm currently trying to cut body fat by about 3-5%, so my weight will reduce by a couple of kilos, or remain stable from muscle growth, 120 would be a safe amount really.

Also, I have no idea where to get them from... I googled incline benches, but the websites were kind of dodgy looking; also looked on argos but I'm not sure about the quality of them. Anyone got recommendations?

I'm a member of a gym at the moment, but as I have a set of dumb bells I'd really like to get the most out of them so I can do all my weights at home.

I've got a few hundred pounds laying about, but I'd really prefer to spend as little as possible on the bench as I need it for driving lessons and some other stuff soon.

I'm willing to spend like £60, but will go up to maybe £80 on a bench; if it's going to cost more than that for a decent quality one, I'll just do them at the gym.

Thing is, I've got £460 atm, and due to EMA I'll be getting £20 a week, may also get a job soon too - I just don't want to spend that much on a bench, it's kind of a mental block that won't allow me to spend a lot of my own money on something... Unless obviously it's something that is always expensive like an Xbox or TV.

So can anyone tell me how long a £70 bench will last? Or if there really is much difference between a £200 one and a £70 one?

its not just the bench, its the weights as well. you will need a lot of weight to be putting 7-8kg of lean mass on in the next year or so (not saying its not possible, but with the weight you are talking about using it is quite unlikely).

for what you are doing and the weight you are using, you could buy a decent second hand one from a local free ads paper, but that is not the point.

EMA is for households with less than £30k coming in isnt it? tbh, put it to better use with something else for your home or something. Stay using a gym. gym will give you plenty of equipment, also, it is benficial because of all the cardio stuff.

My dad's maintainance isn't included in household income as he doesn't live with us. My household income is something like 35-40k depending on how much my mum earns, it's a gaping loophole that a lot of people are exploiting (guy at school has parents whose salaries total something like £120,000, but he's getting £30 a week). :)

I'm not trying to put on 7-8kg lol, I'm saying that in case I do put on weight (still 16, might grow a bit still), the bench should be able to take it.

I'll take a look at some second hand stuff (unless you were just trying to save me money due to the £20 EMA thing?) if something decent is out of my price range.

This seems to be a very good bench... £40, 200kg weight, 10 angles...

What? your only using it for dumbells?

Just want to say that's the same bench my friend had and I have used it, the leg part was broken and the middle section of the bench for some reason tilted to the side a bit, not due to abuse though.

That looks good, im not an expert on which one to get though. But it goes without saying, you buy cheap, you get cheap. In all honesty do you think a bench at 40 quid will be very well built and for long durable use?

Considering what he will be using it for it should be just fine, he wouldnt need the racks on the more expensive bench either and he has a tight budget so hes probably made the right choice. the york one that is designed for women(dont let that put you off it) looks a bit more sturdy though but its more expensive

thats a great DB bench, ive got it and it will take over 300k at a push,

The York bench listed by SK07 is good too, i have that one aswell (argos eh?) it is akward for dumbell work though hence the pucase of the former.

One rule above all though as these are flat packed,- PUT IT TOGETHER PROPERLY!

Your 16, and well, you live with your mum right? So no tools and low mechanical knowledge, assuming (perhaps unfairly) that you are not a whizz with a set of spanners and alen keys right? Get help and advice (preferably male) when building either of these (especially the bench press bench) because a missing nut could kill you! Although granted with only 50kg it might not :D

40 stone isnt much tho when you are doing a half decent mount of weight. if i was to do bodyweight bench press on that I would be near the 250kg recommended limit (me being 120kg)
