Weight Increasing - Not Gaining Muscle

If he eats at about his maintenance every day, that rest day will equal a ~2000 calorie surplus which will work out around 300 surplus per day. Dunno why people bother to faff about with different macros on different days

monkee i get what your say ;)

just a point here, its not what your eating thats impacting your gains, its how your training.

Can you point out a single swimmer who has an awesome physique?? I dont think i saw a single swimmer at the olympics who looked "shredded" as they say. If you want to gain muscle you really need to adopt a training routine that focuses on this. 3-4 weight sessions a week with decent structure.

I thought he was saying it in a general context, which if so, it's absolute rubbish. What you eat is absolutely crucial to gaining mass

You can have a perfect routine and lift with perfect form, if you don't eat properly once you get out of the gym, it's all for nothing

I'm inclined to agree; we haven't seen his routine yet.

I'm more amused that he has a 'good' PT who doesn't seem able to address this problem. :)

If you're in a calorie excess and piling on the flab, it's because the excess is not being used for anything more than refuelling.

Firstly, two things:

1) as FF pointed out, you are not training enough for muscle growth;
2) if you're at 8.5% BF, ANY gains will make you look more padded if they're working right.

Secondly, you need to decide what your goals are: more muscle? Or better swimming? The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they generally require a bucketload more calories, and a shed load more gym time. For most humans, a choice has to be made.

It is interesting that you think you have packed out, but I'm guessing your prior history comes into play here. Chances are you have not, but we'd need pictures to corroborate this.

So for your to-do list:

1) post up your diet;
2) post up your routine;
3) post up before and after pictures;

PLEASE tell me you don't believe that?!

I am reading between the lines a little and assuming from matutu's history and experiences, he has a reasonable grasp on what to eat, also I have previously seen diets he has posted up and they seem pretty reasonable. So yeap, I would say his issue is the training /sheer volume of cardio and not the diet :)

I want to see pictures of his PT: clearly full of bad advice, so there can only be one reason he keeps her around. Nomsayin? ;)

Just in case anybody is wondering, this post is made in jest. :D

Thanks for all the responces guys, I think I am just going to stick with it and go for the full 8 weeks and see where I stand.

I dont know about anybody else, but my weight would have to change by a fair bit more than 2.5lbs for me to be able to notice it in the mirror!

Infact I wouldnt be surprised if my weight fluctuated that much in a day tbh!
