Weird Gatso's

No they're very basic infact, just cameras... That's why the white marking are along the road, if it was done by radar they would not be needed, what the cameras actually do is take two photos one after the other, which can be seen by two quick flashes and then each picture is looked at and the distance the motor vehicle has travelled along the white bars between the two photos can be worked out to find its speed.

If it was done by radar or something clever like that everyone who drove over one at anything above 40mph would get done but they usually take random photos every 10 mins or so.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *gasps* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *gasps* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is the single-most funny thing I've read on these forums for a very, very, very long time! :D

Hmmm. I read through that thinking it was a wind up. Surely that is a **** take post..... Where is the wink at the end. No one can be that stupid..... :o

no swearing. FF.

Sometimes they break, I was driving along, went through a green light like all the other cars around me and the camera flashed everyone lol, nice way to waste all that film :p
Thats because traffic light ones are different. They just take random pictures at a set interval to catch people out.

;)

Yep thats the Max Power guide to how the cameras work and its 100% correct. Infact there are two types of these, one uses pentax and the other cannon. They tried it with Fuji and Kodak but were not accurate enough.

Glad you all found it so funny :D

I honestly never knew that, I was told that by a police officer actually. If it is radar activated howcome I've gone through them at 70mph in a 40mph and not been caught and seen them flash randomly when there isn't even a car on the road?

Why are you daft enough to drive through cameras at 70 in a 40?

Infact why are you doing 70 in a 40?

It was 5am and totally empty road. Don't take the high horse we've all done it.

Well no, whilst we all speed I'm we've not all done 70 in a 40 and even if we did we'd have been watching the road and will thus have spotted the large GATSO camera by the side of it.

Haha :D fair doos man. Now I know they use ****ing radars believe you me I'm going to slow down for them everytime now, I often speed through them because I believed it was completely random and a low chance of getting caught, not anymore.

no we havnt... the max i go over the speed limit in 30s/40s is 5mph and thats only when theres absolutely nothing around.

Motorways are another story.... as said in another thread about the autobanns.... Whats happening infront of me (and in mirrors) is more important than whats going on in the speed dial.

i dont find it strange, i've seen gatsos randomly flash for no reason. I've also seen one repetedly flash a load of cars in a traffic jam across its white lines.

Just because its an OMGLOLWTFBBQUBERMGZTCDTi111!!!! Gatso doesnt mean it cant malfunciton!

If that is the case couldn't countless numbers of speeding tickets be left in doubt. Bit like the radar gun that clocked the court room wall doing 10mph. If they randomly flash and take a picture in theory you could be doing the speed limit but caught far enough up the white lines for it to believe you were speeding? Slim chance I admit but is it possible to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Or is that impossible?

No because they flash twice as the distance between the two lines is used to work out your speed. (thus they would work out that you were doing the speed limit)
