I'm just setting up a new build and re-using some HDD's from a previous build.
The main board is an Asus P8z68-V Pro and the new HDD is a Crucial M4 SSD.
The "old" machine had two Hitachi 1Tb drives in RAID0 and a 1TB WD Green backup drive. OS is Win7 HP

I installed the SSD separately then added the other drives ones the system was installed and updated. In the BIOS the discs are in AHCI mode.

In Windows, the two Hitachi drives were showing up as a single 1.8Tb disc and the WD drive as a single 1Tb disc. That was until about 5 min ago when the RAID discs have just disappeared. They show up in the BIOS but not in Windows, not even in System Properties.

What's going on? I want to format them both and just have two single 1Tb discs for my photos and the other as a backup drive. But I can't see either of them.

Try pulling the sata cable from all but one of the drive, and then see if you can format it.
