Weird issue that makes no sense

So I have been running crossfired 7950s since October.

MSI TF3 as my primary, HIS Iceq Boost as secondary.

Crossfire has always worked fine, as does mining.

Got another Iceq Boost, planning to move my TF3 to my ITX machine and run matching cards in my main rig.

Remove MSI
Put in 2nd HIS
Machine doesn't boot
Swap HIS cards around, no boot
Each HIS on their own, no boot
MSI as primary with original HIS, boot
MSI as primary with new HIS, boot
Either HIS in my ITX, boot and working fine

So both HIS cards seem to be fine, but my main rig will not boot if either of them is the primary card.

Any ideas what could be causing that? PSU is fine.

have you tried the HIS in the same PCIE slot you use when the MSI is in or did you put the HIS in the MSI slot.

Try the HIS in the same slot you normally use.

I've tried all the slots, but it is running a 2012 BIOS.

The MSI website is a bit fuzzy on the BIOS details, says not to use ME8 if you have a sandybridge cpu, but all the newer BIOSes are ME8.
