Weird issue with ping

For some reason I can’t ping my friend but other people can ping him fine, also he can’t ping me but other people can.

His ISP is o2 LLU and I’m on Be, I’m pretty sure these are both the same company?

Also having a similar problem with Modern Warfare 2 as neither of us can join each others game despite both having set up a DMZ, yet other people can join our games and we can join other peoples fine.

My friend has recently formatted his computer for an unrelated reason but this has not fixed it, im now out of idea. This is a really weird one!

you need to enable both routers to allow ping at the wan port.

We have, as I said other people can ping both of us fine, and we can ping other people fine.

That's odd then I know when I play and my friend hosts a game (bethere) I ping full bars to him like 15ms and same goes for him to me, so it should work.

what routers do you both use?

I use a I use a Netgear DG834N, he has the free router you get with o2 but has tried with a different router.

I'm not too bothered about the ping, despite how strange it is. I only tried it after 2 months of trying to play spec-ops with him in Modern Warfare 2, where we couldnt connect to each other even with all the ports open, DMZ setup and the game saying we are connectable. Not to mention other people can join me fine! I'm sure these problems are related.
