weird laptop problem

hi guys, i have a weird problem, i have re-installed my vista laptop and did some windows updates only to find that when the latop restarted the screen was practically blank except for the mouse cursor which was going mad, a beeping noise and a message about interactive logon. Does any one know what this is?, as it seem to work after i connected it to an external monitor, the reason i'm asking is, is it worth sending it back or do you think its a one time thing. Any response appreciated.

did you reinstall using the supplied discs? What make model is it, never encounted it in all my years of laptop repairs.

thanks for the reply the make/model is in my sig, the reason i ask this is my warranty on it is due to run out in December, and i'm not sure if i should send it off or not.

reinstall again, make sure no driver updates get installed?
