Weird memory issue

Hey guys

Originally i had 4gb (2x 2gb) of corsair dominator ram
which i was using prior to knowing that a 6gb kit was what i was ment to use for an i7 cpu.

Anywhoo i bought the 6gb set ,and it works.
Did some overclocking etc, was stable for about a week, and i noticed weird hangs on steam and my browsers. 10 - 15 seconds of non responsive windows.
then i figured mm maybe ive wrecked my ram i will chuck my 4gb set back in to test for stability (they have never been overclocked)
And now the pc wont boot with the 4gb kit.

so for interests sake i leave the 4gb kit in and i pop in the other 6gb kit
and boot up the comp
CPUz shows 10gb of ram.

Now im really confused..
4gb wont boot on its own
4gb kit will work when used in conjunction with my 6gb kit.

Im using a rampage 2 extreme with a i7 920
everything is back at stock clocks/settings.
But i still get weird hang issues.

anybody got an idea as to what the heck might be going on ?

I have cleared the cmos (the button thats on the rampage 2 extreme mobo)
and this has made no change

Ok
Ive swapped my gfx card for a 4770
and played a few games
and all round use of the pc seems somewhat more stable.

However i still have the issue where my pc wont boot on 4 gigs ?
i even tried 1 slot of 2gb and it doesnt work.

Any ideas?

Have you performed a CMOS reset?

Well there is a button on the mobo CLR_CMOS
wich i have pressed and it seems to set everything in the bios back to defaults.
