Weird noises on boot

Not a particularly serious issue, but I get some strange 'clicking' noises from my PC when it boots. Then they stop as soon as Windows starts to load.

I don't think its the hard drives as everything works fine once Windows has loaded.

The only thing I think it might be is my USB keyboard and mouse. I used a PS/2 keyboard to do the initial setup and am pretty sure I didn't hear it then.

Has anyone had anything similar and know how to fix it? I've tried going through a few BIOS settings, but haven't found anything I think would have an effect.

As I say, pc works fine, its just irritating! ;)

It could be a sign that your hard drive is on it's way out , I'd unplug the HD and see if you still get the sound, also one thing to consider is any wires\cables near any fans in you case or a noisy fan motor that is only noticeable at low spin up.If you think it might be a something else just start to unplug things and boot, the key to finding probs on pc's is to experiment.

Thanks. I'm not sure if that would explain why it doesn't happen if I use a PS/2 keyboard though, plus I'm pretty sure the sound is coming from the speaker.

Will still double check though, one of my drives is a bit ancient :)
