Weird Phone Scam?

I can handle the car accident claim calls and the random FOREX trading platform ones.

But this presumed scam is weird. I have had two calls in the last few days (plus a couple more but a long time ago) where the person claims they had a missed call from my number. One in the UK, and now one from Italy. They themselves don't sound like scammers so I can only presume my number is being somehow used for nefarious reasons.

Any one heard of something similar?

How old do the people sound?

I remember years ago there was some trend of calling random numbers.

But how does a UK mobile number calling me back be a scam?

I'm not saying it's definitely not a scam but the guy on Monday night sounded utterly confused/normal.

Monday - middle aged British man. Today - a younger Italian man.

The scammers have wised up to folk not answering withheld numbers so they spoof any random number they can find. It appears like you called the chap but clearly you didn't.

Ahhhh I see, did not know that. I guess there's not really anything I can do about it other than not answer the phone (but I sometimes receive calls from unknown UK mobile numbers)?

I remember receiving calls from an elderly gentleman looking for a 'Frank' I guess he he misstyped a digit somewhere - possibly something similar.

Had some fun with the car accident claim ones before, managing to get up to get up to a manager about my hot air balloon crash that went down instead of up :D. God knows how they fell for it for that long :D - they're the scammers!

Number has been spoofed, you can either change yours, or just wait a few days, the scammers will stop using it and move to another one. You are just very unlucky.

Only reason they spoof mobile numbers as people are more inclined to answer or call back an unknown mobile number then a landline.

Moving your number on is totally pointless. Pretty much every phone number ever known to man is published on the internet anyway.

To be fair I've had this number for quite a while and it's both my personal and work number. I've got some cheapo sim card knocking around I've been meaning to swap over to. Thanks for the help :).
