Weird problem since installing graphics driver/AMD DC Optimizer?

Just before I installed CoH, I updated my Graphics Driver (Nvidia 93.71) and installed the AMD Dual core Windows optimizer.

Install went ok but I've had a couple of weird problems since.

1. When logging into my desk top, I have to wait at least a minute for it to become available. It just freezes. Then there is a "Switch" is if it were switching from one mode to another. This is really annoying. So, I decided to uninstall the the AMD Dual Core optimizer from "Add/Remove Program" and reinstall all chipset and display drivers running regcleaner first. It still halts??Clearly, the uninstall didn't work. There are no services or start up jobs for this.

2. The second problem really concerns me. Since installing the said driver/utility, I had strange graphical appearances.. Like little blocks of distorted colour. At first it was just in game but I've noticed it too within windows.

I'm certain it's not a hardware problem as I've changed nothing for ages. I'm wondering if it's a driver problem or the optimizer has corrupted some thing.

My next step is to re-install windows but before I do, I want to see if anyone else has experianced simular problems.

Thanks

the turn on and off is the nVidia drivers ... double check you have the correct ones for your card and maybe roll back the previous stable release?

The dual core optimizer (On/Off) is in the driver?? I have not seen that.. Have you a screen shoot?

Uninstall the AMD "optimizer" and just install the AMD CPU driver. I got slow downs in Windows with the optimizer too.

I tried that, but it seems not to have uninstalled it. Did you get he same symtoms as I described in point 1. i.e. the desktop only becomes available when the screen flashes black as it switched, but it can take upto a minute or so for this to happen?

Can't remember and I'm not going to reinstall it to find out! But after installing it did seem to pause for no reason, ie opening Windows Browser took longer, and browsing directories (with only a few files) causes a delay too before showing the list of files.

This is almost certainly a nvidia driver issue, had it myself a while back, and iirc it's down to a bug/compatility issuse between the driver and Java (can't remember what vers), have you updated Java recently..... if not uninstall previous versions and install the latest V6, see if that helps.

I don't beleive I have unless it's come down as a "Hotfix"?
