Weird problem with graphics card (or CPU maybe?)

Hi guys,

I used to have my AGP 6800U on a DFI Lanparty 875b with a P4 3.4Ghz EE. It was OC'd to 450/1200 and worked fine. I rebuilt my system and put my 6800U on a Gigabyte K8Triton with a A64 4000+. Now if I try to run anything 3D it will freeze up and stutter within a few seconds. I underclocked to 400/1100 and everything seemed fine, but the problems crept back after a few minutes. I'm not sure what's wrong why would it work fine before and mess up now. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY HELP ME PLEASE!

Have you tried different drivers? Can you try the card in another machine to rule it out?

Hmmm .. I unfortunately don't have another PC to try it out on. But I tried disabling fast writes to see if that would make a difference and I played Oblivion for about half an hour problem free. Though I think theres a deeper problem here. I'll give the 84.25's a try and see if there's a difference. Also thanks for the reply.

if your mobo has a nforce3 chipset, disabling fast writes is probably the answer.....

K8Triton is NForce 3. I have same MB and had similar problem and disabling fast writes sorted it for me also.

I was unaware of problems with the nforce chipset and fast writes, but disabling them has definitely solved my problem. Thanks to everybody who replied. <-- (smiley added to artificially enhance post)
