My pc was working fine, until i got prompted of a update to my system(vista ultimate 64 bit). I update these, whilst downloading the updates i go the pub. I come back and restart as instructed. I restarted and then it goes to a black screen and shows numbers of like 3 hundred thousand, once it updated it goes to the windows screen just before you type your password( it never gets this far). Then it says updating 0/3 0% then it updates the 3/3 then restarts. This loops and doesn't get anywhere. Anybody got a solution? Thanks for your time.

Did that and now it's coming up with the options after you do a manuel shut down. I start windows normally and it stuck on the 3rd update of 3. I have formatted before but for some reason this isnt doing it :?

Boot from the vista disk and go to install, along the way there should be an option something along the lines of "repair installation".

This might help and is better than a fresh install.

Hmm, it should boot from the disk before vista even starts to do anything like that.

I had that once and still to this day every once in a while when it boots i get 3/3 100% before the login screen. How long have you left it looping?

I also have to ask, is it a legit copy?

Yeah i got the 64 bit ultimate edition, i left it for about 10 minutes, i'll try restarting and leave it for a bit. Thanks for the help :)

it configures update 3 of 3 and then shut down and restarts. Once it loads up again it's at the configuring 3 of 3 page again. This is doing my head in lol.

I disabled everything in the boot section besides boot from disc, when that loads it says insert media disc or select a boot up option. My vista disc is in the tray so i don't understand :/. I go back to boot from hard drive and start in safe mode, this goes to configuring 3/3 again and reboots. What the hell is going on! I only wanted to update my pc lol.

Now once it reboots ot goes to configure page instead of showing up 3/3 it just says "shutting down" and reboots. Bleh!

Not a clue then mate.

It's odd that it can't boot from the disk, do you have any other bootable disks that you could try instead (just download a linux distro or something else bootable). This way we can find out whether it's your vista disk itself.

In the mean time just leave it doind it's 3/3 loop for an hour or so just on the off chance the computer pixies can sort if for you.

I'm stumped.

I can't see how it's the disc because it's the i installed vista with :/. But i will give your theory of distro ago.

I am going for breakfast so i will leave it in it's loop whilst i eat, hopefully the magical pixies will come and sort it out as it's my birthday today :(.

Never seen or heard of this problem before, all off installing updates.

Thanks anyway, i'll keep you posted when i get back from breakfast/lunch :P.
