Not sure where to post this but a strange problem well a couple actually have just started happening when I shut the pc down and restart it. I have an i5 2500k running at 4Ghz and an MSI P67A-GD55 mobo and I'm running Win 7 ultimate (64 bit) the OS is on a corsair ssd.

This is how it goes, if I use the shutdown button on the windows start menu the pc shuts down, the keyboard lights stay on also the light under the optical mouse stays on. I can restart the pc without any problems, however if I use the power button on the case to shutdown, the keyboard and mouse are powered down. But when I restart the pc I get the "windows did not shut down properly" message. So I click on start windows normally and windows boots up ok, but the keyboard and mouse do not work. I then have to press the reset button and after opting to start windows normally again the pc will work fine for the rest of the day. I can put the pc into sleep mode and it wakes up without any problems. I've tried starting up in safe mode and them shutting down and starting normally but the problem remains the same.

Almost certain to find it on the net these days. I have found Win 7 to be very, very good at automatically finding and installing working drivers. It might be worth uninstalling them then unplug, replug them back in. Win 7 should go about the business of installing them. Not saying this is the answer to your fault though. Just suggesting worth a try.

The keyboard is a several year old cherry model and their are no drivers listed for it on the cherry website, the mouse is a typhoon brand again several years old. I'll try uninstalling them and letting windows find drivers for them :)

Might be best to create a restore point first or do a backup - just in case, prior to uninstalling.

I've finally solved it by disabling "halt on all errors" and also "number lock on boot" in the bios. It seems from posts on another forum that the Asus P8P67 series boards ps2 ports can have problems with some keyboards. There also seems to be a problem with some usb keyboards.
