weird question but opinion wanted

are primeras not allowed on the ring? is there a big sign denying them entry?

don't talk such fine French cheeses.

you can take anything you want and how much fun you have is up to you.

what is wrong with putting 1,500 miles plus on a hundred quid primera with no interior in a week? cheap tyres that let you slide round and have a laugh and a car with not enough power to get into too much trouble have their purposes...

hell, dale lomas (bike/car journo, great writer and man with more laps under his belt than most) rates flying over there, renting the cheapest thing you can, hooning round and flying back!

and on that note, buy next month's perfomance bike mag: they set a new production bike lap record...

Blimey! didn't mean any offence. Just had a chuckle thats all! Suppose it would have been more fitting if I'd have said "it would be like taking a c90 round the iom tt on mad sunday" but both activities are not illegal :)

This went round the ring the first time I was there :p

Wow, I had no idea so many of you had been around the ring... especially Nick and Matteh (although now I can vaguely remember Nick's thread :p)

I feel all left out.

actually, while were on the subject, has anyone got the ferry from newcastle to the dam then driven south?

my dad and I should be back over there later this year...and we don't relish the thought of driving to dover first...

my mate has a battered blue primera that he takes there every couple of months for a week of solid ragging.

cheap remoulds, throwaway car, grins a mild wide.

having heard the price of repairing ring barriers etc, is your friend rich or just stupid?
cheap remoulds is not the best thing to be racing around in!

I expect he gives himself huge margin for error.

he is...comfortable.

don't think he's had to work for a couple of years now but the last time I spoke to him, he was talking about a new start up...something to do with property.

as lopez said, he leaves a huge margin for error and is more likely to just slow down to a stop or miss the barriers if he is cornering near a limit he knows well and taking corners at 30-40 than if he is on ubersticky rubber at the limit and taking the same corners at 50-60.

remoulds are rather progressive when you push them...not as 'gripgripgripgripSPIIIINcrash' as sticky tyres.

plus, he would much rather bin a hundred quid car, pay for track repairs and scrap the car than bin his elise, pay for track repairs, pay for repatriating his car, pay for repairs to it...

How many people die at the ring per year?

Many or none?

I think officially it was around 7 people who died there last year. However they only give the statistics of the people who are pronounced dead on the track - so in reality it'd be a lot higher I imagine.

Mostly bikers though, so doesn't worry me :p

That said I did hear about some guy who flipped his M3 head to tail and ended up decapitated.

 Damn

I'd love to do a lap of the ring but don't think I'd have the bottle with other people there too :(

mooooha I'm going for a week in August. Can't wait!!!! Still deciding whether to take the mx5 round or whether to do a bargain banger challenge with my mate.

For those of you who have been to the ring with the "daily driver" how hard was it on brakes/tyres? Full set of pads all round?

I have a few days off at the end of this month and fancy a trip!!!

and insurance? do i just need euro cover as its a public road?

I don't think it's too bad. Brakes cook very quickly - we got the tyres to start peeling on the Astra we had.

I think as long as you let the car rest enough between laps you shouldn't be in too much danger of peeling tyres/warped discs. My pads seem to last forever though, and I've got Michelin Pilot Sports which are fairly hard wearing too.
