Im using a samsung f1 500GB harddrive with a 780g chipset board and i keep getting some rather strange problems. Every now and then on bootup the harddrive will just stop, as in the light on the case will be off, and i will here a clicking sound, whereas on screen the vista "bar" is scrolling and continues to scrool until i power off the machine. Sometimes when at the desktop when the disk seems to be under load it will freeze the entire machine - no BSOD - the screen will just freeze and stay like that untili power it off, sometimes it boots perfectly though, i mean im on the same machine right now

is the HDD giving up? there dont seem to be any problems according to that SMART status, as far as i know at least, i think it tells you on POST if theres a problem anyway

if its giving up can anyone suggest good new HDD's for a RAID0 setup?

thanks :)

hmm i ran a CHKDSK though and it corrected all errors, could this still be the problem?

Hi mate, just a thought. Are you overclocking the CPU/RAM at all becasue I've had a similar issue over the years when I'd overclocked just a little bit too far & I'd then just get the odd gremlin every now & again @ bootup.

hiya, actually yeah at the moment its overclocked slightly, the ram and cpu by 180mhz, its an amd 6000+ im using, so not a good clocker, but to be honest ive tried resetting to default and had same issues, new mobo is here with sb750 chipset so soon everythings gonna be re-installed, hopefully that should solve it but i was just worried that it may be the HDD thats failing menaing im screwed when i try to reinstall :p
