Weird shadow problem in games

It's been happening for a while but it's beginning to slightly annoy me now.
When I'm playing certain games, it seems I have a radius around me that only shadows can load in. It happens in Rising Storm and Arma 3 I've noticed so far. For example, I move forward one step and a shadow about 10 metres away comes into view, I move back one step and it disappears. It's worth noting it's not all shadows, only a few. Sometimes the shadows are closer, sometimes they are further. It's hard for me to explain but I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas as to why this is happening?

It's happened since I've had the card I'm pretty sure, which is about 18 months now. It's hard to explain, it's not exactly a major problem as shadows still show, it's just a few shadows which decide not to. I'll try and get a video of it.

What game is that in the vid?

You mean the small bushes that seem to appear and then disappear when the character moves backwards and forwards? My guess would be a driver issue or compatibility with the game engine on certain games.

Are you running any apps in the background like Fraps etc?

Foliage sprites fading in and out over distance is a performance thing. Just max out what ever setting that controls draw distance or density if there even is one.

As above, it's Arma 3.

I'm not talking about the grass coming into view, I'm talking about the shadows on the larger bush to the left. As I move back, the shadows disappear off the bush. As I move forward, they come back into view. It's not a view distance problem as shadows are visible in the distance. It's the first thing I could find, sometimes it's shadows of buildings too which makes it even more noticeable.

It's other games as well, not just Arma. I'll find a more severe example of what I mean.

That can be quite common in some games I'm afraid (stalker's a good example of a game that has a funny draw distance when it comes to grass popping up as you run forward). Some games might have little mods that can rectify this.

I doubt it's a problem specific to your gpu.
