Weird sky issue

Very occasionally my connection to the internet seems to stop working, i can connect to stuff that appears to be on skys cache servers but beyond that things stop working for a short while, it hasn't happened enough to be worth asking about but it's just done it again and id like some idea as to what's going on and why?

I would say its only happened a few times in the last few months but don't remember it happening before that, i can't access the majority of sites and when i ping the ones i can it goes to skys cache and i think i can even ping non working sites although timeouts show up in places, i thought perhaps its a dns issue so i've tried opendns with no luck, after a short while it starts working again, also tried router reboots etc.

sounds like a problem between your exchange and your telephone line.

Have you got the router attached to your master socket?

The first socket in your house

You haven't actually said what the problem is.
AFAIK Sky don't run caching proxies, so what are "skys [sic] cache servers" (presumably if you know they're Sky's "cache servers" you have an IP or hostname or something")?
In what sense do "things stop working"?
When you "ping the ones i [sic] can it goes to skys [sic] cache" - what? A ping won't "go" anywhere, so what exactly do you get as a result?

Thanks for the help...

You're quite welcome, though if you were expecting faster responses please do feel free to ask for your money back.

Sorry i wasn't very clear, basically when this happened most websites were inaccessible except for a few sites i tried, wondering why only a few worked while the rest didn't i ran a trace route on one of the working sites, it only went 5 hops away and had a sky ip which i thought was odd so i ran a whois on the ip and it was a cache server, i could also trace route non working sites but still not view them, after probably 5 to 10 minutes everything worked again, its only happened the odd time over the months but its a bit of a weird one, i think it may be my line noise or something?

If the traceroute went past your modem it's very unlikely to be anything specific to your connection. Which sites worked and how sure were you that the sites weren't just being cached by your browser? Did anything else on another protocol work (i.e. mail, IM, P2P etc)?

I was on msn at the time and that stopped working, perhaps i happened to trace route them just when it started to become usable again, sky definitely have a cache server, reddit.com was one site that worked and i tested, even now i can run a tracert and it shows its being cached, if you have sky see for yourself.
