Weird sound problem

Hi All
Bought some new kit today from overclockers, Dell 2408w Monitor, Radeon 4550 etc.

I am having issues getting any sound at all since re-imaging my machine to Vista. It appears to be installed correctly and i get output on the taskbar sound menu but no sound present.

its connected from a dvi convertor on my pc to hdmi in my monitor,
now i realise dvi doesnt carry sound so i actually unplugged my monitor all together and I still dont get any sound. the PC which is a HP Dc7700 sff has intergrated sound and has always worked before with no issues.

any help would be appreciated because i am going mad here!!

I hate me for even suggesting this, but have you actually plugged the speakers in?

Managed to fix it this morning, it turns out that the Radeon 4550 when installed disabled the onboard sound on the motherboard in the bios.

Not very happy really because the card on OC advertises itself as having dual DVI + HDMI, & in Low riser all it has is a DVI and comes with a single convertor to HDMI which wont take audio because its not true HDMI.
