Yep, you all said dont bother putting a bigger engine in the Merit because its a waste, so i bought another Astra :)

£160 has just bought me a 2.0 16v Sport.

She needs a new HG, windscreen and foglight, other than that and a good clean up she will be good to go :D

Selling the 'silly' wheels off the Merit to be replaced by some 15" wheels, then she will be sold aswell :(

Excellent :D Not that I was against the Merit or anything, but as I found out... it's better to start with a good base car than to make more work for yourself by starting out with a lesser model.

Is it a GSi?

What sort of conditin is she in?

Any pics?

Exterior needs a good clean up, more neglected than nackered i think!

Interior im not sure about but it seems to be in good nick just dirty, pick it up next week.

HG is already priced up and ready to be done, £175 :)

It's not a GSi, its a sport. I get all the toys though, ABS, PAS, EW, CL and a funky MFD that tells me MPG, consumption etc ;)

The head need skimming then, or are Vauxhall gaskets made out of diamonds because that seems a little on the expensive side?

The head will need skimming, however that price is for if it does need to be dfone, if not it will be cheaper but thats a "most expensive" price!

Ah, with you.

Hope you enjoy the new car once you have it all sorted anyway. And it has to be an improvement on a Merit with daft wheels and a silly exhaust hung on the back :p

And no, its not an ecotec :)

That looks identical to a 2.0XE engine??? is a 150BHP job? It's got SFI so I assume it is?

Yup, thats another shed alright.

But this time you've actually bought a reasonably potent top of the range shed which, if you lavish similar time and effort on it than you did your last shed, it might actually look pretty decent not like a polished ****.

Have fun with it :)

Well you learn a new thing everyday, i didnt think the 20XE was available in anything other than the GSi as far as the MK3 Astra went. Be careful with in when you finally get it running, it has ever so slightly more get up and go than the merit. The engine also has loads of tuning potential so its a pretty good base in that department.

It wasn't (Apart from Cav's, Calibra's etc). The previous engine wentpop (ecotec) replaced by an XE :)

Doesnt that mean you now have to insure it as modified?

I'm not quite sure, I've been told that because its a like-forlike (almost) engine swap it would be ok, but im going to ask my insurance company to make sure.

It's not going to see the road for a while i dont think, no need to rush it :)

Will look a nice engine once cleaned up, whats the rest of the car like?

Rusty rear arches? Personally i'd keep the 17s and put them on this car...

You need to make sure the head isnt porus as well, my first red top was one of the first and never had any issues. The second had a 'H/G failure' which ended up being a porus head.... though we only found out after getting the gasket changed....
