Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Ok so does the default Nuphy software work well enough to remap the board in that way, or would I need get a board with VIA compatibility?

I note their new air 75 V3 that you have pre-ordered has an option for VIA, but their other boards don't seem to have it as an option.

I have the Halo 65 and use the default keycaps. In Mac I just know Shift 3 is £ so I never gone into the software to test. As it’s only 65 keys there isn’t really many keys outside the letters and numbers and delete left to map.

So now I have the Q6 Max for home, I'm thinking I might need (or more accurately want :p ) to invest in a smaller form factor keyboard for use on those days when I need to pack up my laptop and go to an office or client site.

Why don't you just use the laptop keyboard I hear you ask? Well, it's sensible questions like this that stop me spending money on cool tech and in turn stops the collective discussion of like minded people on this forum and degrades our community.

(tenuous I know, but that is my justification and I'm sticking to it!)

So I'm thinking maybe a 60(ish)% board with super quiet keys so it's OK in an open office environment or in a meeting room.

Relatively cheap. I'm aiming for sub £100 ish as it's only going to be used infrequently. Although tri-mode and VIA would be lovely I'm not sure it's needed (or justifiable) for this use case. Same wiih RGB etc although if it's available at the price point I can always turn it off :)

I would like it to be hot swappable / moddable.

I would be grateful for your suggestions.
Lucky65 with Akko Fairy Silent Switches and a keycap set with budget. I built one myself recently from AliX and worked out after coins and coupons about £82 all in delivered.

How do you find typing on it? Particularly the enter key and shift keys?

My preference for UK layout seems to be limiting options to the extent that it seems to be keychron or bust!

But maybe I could learn to type on an ANSI type board. Trouble is it would be a 2nd board that is used infrequently so I wouldn't exactly get a lot of practice. But then again it would only be light typing during office visits etc.

I'll have a think. Might get a US board and see how I go.

The lack of ISO out there is why Keychron gets mentioned a lot.

The Nuphy is fine, it a few years old now as it is one of their earlier releases. There is zero damping and it is very stiff, not the gasket mounted boards that is everywhere. It's not bad but these days it is not as good say vs a Rainy75 for similar money or less. The keycaps I would say is better than Keychron's stock caps in terms of feeling better but it is a little in consistent in it's fitment. A couple of keys is quite loose on the Switches and would fall out. and the top of the most used keys have gone shiny on the surface. I am going to replace them soon with a different Nuphy set when I order the Air v3 ISO to save postage. It came with Gateron Browns when I got it which I replaced with Milky Yellows.

I use it everyday at work, I have had it's money worth, comes with a BUDGET dust cover which is a neat touch (I bought a separate one for the Keychron but its much nicer.

If I am buying now, I would not be getting the Halo65 because the market has moved on a bit and you can get more for your money.

If you can accept ANSI, which honestly, not difficult to get used to, the hardest thing is hitting the Enter key with the pinky in the same spot as ISO, just muscle memory training, along with the £ key mostly. The whole market opens up if you can accept ANSI and can save lots of money.

Instead of the Halo65 I would be looking at this. https://www.luminkey.com/products/magger-68-gaming-keyboard. It's same size but HE.

So what do you reckon the delivery time will be on the Air V3?

Judging by the US pre-order dates, possibly around mid August?

It's weird - I'm more excited for this than I was for my Q6!

Seems like i'm getting addicted now to trying out all the different key switches for my Keychron..............

So far have some testers of Kailh deep sea silent linear and tactile, Kailh midnight pro linear and tactile and a Gateron switch tester on its way with all their silent switches. Also like the sound of TTC frozen silents.

Anyone else using some silent but nice sounding keys?

Technically so do I. I ordered some extra blush switches with my Air 75. :p

I actually ordered something else too, Nuphy Mint Switches. It's only like £15 for 90 on some kind of sale. I absolutely LOVE their Lemon tactile so if the Mint (linear) can sound the same without the bump, it would be my go to.

I love the Lemon so much that yesterday I picked up my numpad (it has them installed) and started to just pressing on it like some kind of stress relief toy lol. The sound from them is so satisfying.

Lucky80 with Akko Fairy Silent Switches, GMK Clone Hammerhead Dark Keycaps and Predator Keycaps to make my “Jaws 50th” keyboard as it’s my favourite film.

Payday for me yesterday so I ordered the following:

Gazzew Black Boba U4 × 40 (62g)
Gazzew Black Boba U4T × 80 (62g)

Going to see how I like them and how noisy they are.

I’ll see if I can use the U4 for the most common keys to keep the noise down whilst retaining similar typing behaviour.
