well iv decided

Are crossfire mobos only for ATI cards? I don't really understand the difference between the two in all honesty. Is there an advantage to getting a crossfire and how far behind is this SLI generation?

Ta

Yes, crossfire is for ATi cards, Sli for nVidia.

Though you can use single cards in each (ie 1 ATi 1950 in an SLi board or an 8800GTS in a crossfire) you wouldnt be able to run 2 ATi cards in an SLi board.

Hope that makes sense.

Yeah it did indeed make sense. How far behind generation wise is the 680i? Is it massive? Seems like I might have picked the right board for SLI unless anyone has any other recommendations (must be SLI).

Thanks

well all bad luck for me,ocuk replaced the gpu for me but when i put the system together all fans run but that was it.
i tried everything so i phoned them and the first thing they said it could be the psu.
WHAT!!! everybody who i asked in these forums pointed me to this psu and even the guy at ocuk said its a good psu.
i explained everything i had tried and then he said it sounds like the m/board which i already thought.
so ere iam after 3yrs upgraded and still fustrated.

Errr PSUs fail once in a while. You just got unlucky.

The Corsair PSUs are the best on the market.

Strip everything down, connect the mobo, cpu, psu (make sure you connect both the mobo connetor and the 4 pin 12 cpu lead), then connect the PC speaker connector and on/off switch. Nothing else. The system should then switch on and beep at you. If you don't get any beeps while in such a stripped down state, you have to determine which of remaining parts are at fault.

There's nothing wrong with your spec by the way, the Corsair and Gigabyte boards are really good, have specced several machines with similar config's and they're all running 100%.

i have taken the board out off the case and tried it.
the cpu and the psu fans spin for a second or 2 and stop and start and so on.
would this point it to the psu.
i tried another psu which has only a 20 pin connector and the 4 pin connector, the fans didnt spin but the m/board beeped.
thanks

i bought another m/board and still the same thing now i get a squeeling sound when powers down.
iam totaly ****** off cos iv spent a lot of money and still left with with nothing.

Hey man sorry was at work all day. Where's the squealing coming from? I've heard borked PSU's make a squeaky/squealy sound in the past, which would further lead me to suspect the PSU. (Why after suspecting the PSU and planning to investigate down that route did you buy another motherboard???)

To answer your questions:

1.) You need a PSU that supports 24+4 pins if thats what your motherboard requires, so the Antec won't work

2.) I probably wouldn't buy at that purple shirt place (not naming it because naming competitors is against forum rules.) However you could possibly take your PSU there and see if they can test if for you (or for that matter, any other PC shop with a workshop.) Alternatively you should just RMA your PSU and be patient until the replacement turns up.

Be patient, these things happen! :-)
