Remarkable achievement for Wenger, didnt think he would last that long in the job. Hopefully he gets a win this weekend against Chelsea for his 1000th game. Surprisingly Fergie has said some nice things about Wenger as well.

SAF said:
I congratulate Arsène in reaching this momentous landmark," Ferguson said. "Having also reached the same milestone at one club, I cannot emphasise enough the level of dedication, resilience as well as sacrifice required and for that I have for the utmost admiration.

"Over the years we enjoyed some fantastic battles and you could say we had survived together and respected each other's efforts to play good football. I always enjoy watching Arsène's sides - Arsenal play the right way.

"Playing against them always presented special challenges that I burned many hours over the years thinking about. He has always been a conscientious member of our trade who makes it his business to help other managers.

"Perhaps the biggest compliment I could give Arsène is that I could never be anything other than competitive with my rival for 17 years."

I've said before Wenger was brilliant for say 7-8 years and poop since then. If he'd left 4-5 years ago when it was clear as day nothing was going to change, we would view him as a successful manager with a few unlucky years, now he's failed for as long as he succeeded. His overall record for me is now meh.

by telling everyone 4th is success he's managed to convince his players of this fact, beat everyone but the top 4 teams from any league and you're doing great.... we play like it, the players react like it and Wenger is happy with it.

Mourinho out in first says they aren't favourites, however hollow it sounds it's still the message to his players... you're top now but it's not good enough. Arsenal fail in every competition come 4th and it's a round of applause and pats on the back all around. ultimately every season of failure Wenger tells everyone at the club they did well enough.....

Simple fact is that over the past 8 years we've still not improved anywhere properly. Defensively we're still a joke at fullback. His system/style hasn't worked but he never attempts to fix it. Gibbs was shocking last year and shocking in the majority of games this season. Absolutely no where near enough has been made of how shocking Gibbs was before being sent off yesterday. If Gibbs sucks, but we win games, Wenger deems it good enough. Mourinho was winning games with Mikel in midfield but still improved to Matic, they were winning games with Cole at left back but still starts who he deems is better. A win isn't an excuse to ignore the problems within a game. Gibbs shouldn't have been handed a new contract, at the very last not a vastly improved one, he can't defend and is entirely "meh" offensively, symptomatic of Wenger's Arsenal, we came fourth so clearly everyone who played is good enough.

Caz is crap out wide, completely, and great in the middle. Ozil is a marginal improvement on Caz, but an actual wide player would have improved the team more, 42mil on two actually competent fullbacks would have improved Arsenal many times more than adding Ozil did, or 42mil on a striker who can play football. Same old Wenger, should walked 5-6 years ago, should have been fired 3-5 years ago.... embarrassing he's still at the club.

I would take wenger over moyes any day, at least you always play attractive football.

True but its won us FA for the past 8 yrs now, attractive football is all well and good as long as you win trophies and titles. Id rather see us play ugly, win games and win trophies. Sometimes i just wish we were more direct in attack instead of passing the ball around the box till we bore the defence to death then decide to try for a goal:p

Social media

My contact has told me Arsene Wenger informed the players in the dressing room immediately after the game on Saturday that he was resigning at the end of the season. the club want him to continue and have imposed a media blackout, hence the cancellation of usual press conference tomorrow. the players have been told not to post anything on social media or any other medium, however they have told their families of the news. apparently players, staff and Wenger himself were all near tears as he told them "play for me until the end of this season"

U getting trolled san. He might not renew his contract but I bet he sees it through till the end.

wenger will be there until he retires for a few more seasons imo and he wouldn't ever tell his players that , how un-motivating would that be like when fergy said he was going to retire that year but didn't

Exactly. I think winning an FA Cup and retiring would be fitting, seeing as that was the last time we won anything. Unfortunately, his club being what it is, we'll go to Wembley prepared for the worst.

Wouldnt surprise me if we win the FA cup and Wenger calls it a day, fitting way to end his time at Arsenal.

But if we lose the FA Cup then i can see him definitely walking away, its no coincidence that he hasnt signed a new contract yet even though he was meant to a few weeks back. I think he was probably going to wait after our tough run of games and the FA Cup semi to sign or not sign.

But i dont think he would tell the players he's resigning, he doesnt seem the sort of person unless our loss to Chelsea has completely and utterly broken him.

I dont think he would tell the players either, i think he has taken Arsenal as far as he possibly can.

It cant be a coincidence Arsenal always bottle any good position they are in to win something under him and always implode at the same time every season.

He signed Ozil who they over spent on and really was not needed unless they were going to ship someone else out to make room for him. Maybe Wenger hasn't kept up with the evolving game of football and is to stubborn to change his ways?

He has been destroyed by the big teams this season when they went away and only changed his tactics once this season to not get spanked by Bayern away from home.

You know what they say the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. He has pretty much done this in the last couple of years and only a few months ago he was saying this team can achieve great things but we all knew it was a sack of lies and were expecting Arsenal to fall short again like they always have done in recent years.

Great manager at Arsenal but i do think it's time for him to move on as he is holding Arsenal back imo.

could be a great thing if he leaves or a bad thiing. i think he should stay in the board at least to steady the funds and business side of things as he is good at that and let someone take care of stuff on the pitch
