Wenger wants refs to ban divers

Why pussy foot about, red card the cheat then a 3 match ban, doubling with each rule break, simple.

I've said this. 3 match ban and 3 week fine to match it. If you want to get it out the game then this is the best way, they'd think twice about it next time they had the chance.

Yep, ban 'em, and if a team have a particular problem with repeated diving then the FA have to start deducting points (I'm not just picking on Chelsea, other teams have had problems in the past)

And how would that help the game?

The team shuts up shop for ten minutes, what a spectacle that will be!
He gets a ten minute breather and comes back nice and refreshed.

i thought chelsea played with a 10 man defence anyway?

diving is wrong... but its difficult to stamp out entirely, it can be entirely subjective as to whether it was a fall, a dive, or a foul in many occasions

But banning players retrospectively via TV evidence would be very difficult to get wrong and the fear of a ban would stop the divers very quickly.

The danger is that you end up sending off players who haven't dived, punishing people for the cheating of others. I've seen refs get it wrong before and book 'divers' when they were genuinely fouled; a red card would just compound that situation and cause so much controversy that refs would be scared stiff of taking any action.

I maintain that the best way is the FA to clamp down on the cheats themselves on the basis on video evidence rather than having to rely on refs, who, lets face it, have enough on their plate and make enough mistakes already. That way not only can you be more sure of getting the decision correct, but you are also punishing all those who manage to get away with it while the ref isn't looking.

Think about it, if players know that even if they get away with a dive during the match, they can be banned for it afterwards, they would be more reluctant to do so. I'm not saying we would get rid of the cheats altogether but It'd be a fairly risk-free solution and a damn sight better than watching the likes of Drogba and Robben performing their amateur theatrics every week.

For what it's worth I applaud UEFA, they got it right by punishing that Chelsea player after the match, who went down clutching his face against Monaco(?). Think it was Geremi or maybe Gallas.
