Hey guys im about to buy 2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-046-WD), im just wondering if i should go for the Western Digital WDSC50RCW Secure Connect Serial ATA Cable (CB-000-WD) or just buy some akasa sata cables?

Also is the WD drive above any good?

Thanks.

I wouldn't bother with the secure connect cable, seems a bit pointless to spend extra on something that supposedly won't fall off the drive when it has a normal connector to fall off the board

I've tried the Akasa ones and wasn't impressed, the ones which came with my mobo were more secure, do you not have sufficient cables from your mobo?

At the moment I'd pick the Seagate 7200.10 drives over the WDs, the Seagates are faster and I've had too many bad experiences with WD to use them.

It's good, but there are better drives - e.g. the Seagate 7200.10 250GB (perpendicular recording i.e. faster sustained reads [from 55MB/s to about 68MB/s], Native Command Queuing, 5 year warranty).

SecureConnect is a bit of a gimmick - it is quite secure but thereis no real need for it as it is not often people break their SATA connectors or consistently remove/replace them (wear and tear).
