Western Digital Caviar RE 160GB 1600YS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

I've just bought 2 of the SATA 2 250mb 16mb cache WD ones and they are very quiet and pretty nippy, I've set them up in RAID 1 and they seem fine.

Heartily recommended.

Not worthwhile buying 160GB anymore (£42) , price per GB on the larger drives offer better price per GB. For £55 you can get 250GB. 90GB more for a extra £13.

But then were do you draw the line on price.....As a 320gb is only £59...70GB extra for £4 (over the 250gb price)

You draw the line when the larger drives become more expensive per GB. If drives/prices are a few quid together then it makes sense to buy the bigger drive for a few pounds more.

examples

80GB £38
160GB £40
250GB £45
320GB £48
700GB £200

If the price between 80GB and 160GB is only £2, it makes sense to go for the bigger price, for a paltry £2 more. There is very little difference in price between 80 and 320GB, but there's a huge increase for 750GB. It will be cheaper to buy three 320GB than a single 750GB

I think £4 for 70GB is worth the extra, usually it's only the top two largest drives are not value for money.
