About to buy this HDD as part of a AMD 3700+, X1800XT new rig. Is there any other drive which offers better performance or reliability at this price point?

Some people reckon the Seagates may be more reliable over the long term.

I have bought two of these WD drives for RAID0.

And a 300Gb SATA II Seagate for data.

I have other WD and Seagate drives, and none have been any problem so far.

IBM Deathstar is no longer a valid argument though. Hitachi make ecellent drives and aside from the two deathstar models, the GXP75 and GXP60, all other drives were actually very good. In fact, Hitachi are giving Seagate a run for their money at the moment in terms sof reliability.
