Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

I was thinking about purchasing this drive, but im curious as to why it's so cheap for 250gb and 16mb Cache? Is there any catches to this or is it a good drive and an amazing price?

Good drive, have one 2500KS (plus three 3200KS)

Only reason they are so cheap is just hard drives depriciating in value.

If we were to compare this to a Seagate 7200.10 which performs better of the 2?

The Seagate 7200.10s have a sustained transfer rate of about 5-10Mb/s higher than the rest of the current 7200rpm disks due to the increased data density offered by the Perpendicular Recording method employed by the drives.

5-10Mb/s is about a 10-15% increase btw.

i love figures that show performance increase

. Maybe ill do a switch to the seagate if thats the case.

Anandtech did a head-to-head review of these 2 drives (320GB) a few months ago. I think they liked both, the Seagate having the edge with sustained xfer rates (e.g. games install) while the WD was better for non-sequential access (e.g. game load). I don't think you would notice the differencein performance (the WD is the quieter/cooler though).
