please can sombody help i have got a Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB sata 2 harddrive and i'm trying to install it on a asus a8n32-sli mobo i've installed the cable in sata 1 port on mobo connected the power supply ok
When i try to install xp pro it gets to the install page and it seems not to have detected the drive i really need help setting the right configuration up in the bios so it will detect the drive.Or do i need to do something to the drive ,i've left all the jumpers out in the back could that cause any probs..

You want to look for either an IDE compatibility mode in the BIOS, or alternatively you need to find the drivers for your SATA controller and put them on a floppy disk and hit F6 when it asks you to at the very start of Windows setup.

The drivers 'should' be on the CD that came with the mobo or alternatively the ASUS site, but they need to be on a floppy for XP setup to take them.

yes thanks for quick reply i copied the drivers and made a floppy after the 10th attempt of trying to detect my new drive i reinstalled my old ide drive kept the new drive in and still it will not detect the thing i cant seem to find the right bios settings...

Make sure it is plugged into the nForce4 SATA ports (closest to the chipset) as these do not require drivers. If it does not work in these ports, check the cable is not faulty or try a different port. Other than that, the drive is faulty.

thanks was useing one of them 4 anyway but i changed the power cable, was useing one of them joint connectors with the sata and power supply locked together, and that was at fault.had a power supply adaptor with the mobo so i'm formating to check the drive is ok then i'll have ago reinstalling windows on it. Thanks for your help :D
