Hi all,

Thinking about getting this drive for my os/programs/games and use my current 200gb samsung for storage.

Any thoughts on this drive compared to my samsung sata2, what kind of speed increase can i expect?

I have a samsung sata ii 80gb and the 37gb raptor 16mb and there is no comparison between the two. The raptor is not only faster, but quiter. I think the 74 is slightly faster than the 37 as well.

Raptor quieter than a Samsung! I'll be damned.

My Raptor is quite noisey when busy, ok when idle (compared to case fans) but I'm not sure about these 16Mb versions, may be better.

I was suprised as well, but what i have found is that if have the page file on the raptor it isnt any louder, just more irritating. I use the samsung for the page flie now and together they work in a reasonably quite fashion.

hmm, not seen these 16mb versions before i thought only the 150gig raptor had 16mb cache? how much difference is there from a 36gig raptor 8mb to 16mb version?

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like i'm gonna defo get one of these badboys! do all 16mb versions have the clear top or is that just the 150gb version?

Ive seen a benchmark somewhere.(Can't remember where it was, seem to think it was in dutch though) And the 16mb cache 36Gb raptor performed very slightly better than the 150Gb raptor.

Thats only the 150Gb Raptor X. I wouldn't bother with it though, as it more expensive and has half the MTBF of the normal version. Also how often do you see the top of a harddrive?
