Yer but they're a lot of money, looking for an entry level SSD for now...

The WD SSD's were more expensive than the Intel's at every price point, so I don't see why these would be entry level.

I'm with jaybee on this.

I've been following SSD developments ever since the first twinkle in the eyes of the OCZ guys.

I realise they are a performance part and I'm fully aware I only need a small (60-120GB) drive for my OS and apps/games. But they are still priced way too high.

As soon as an acceptable drive comes out at around £1.50/GB max that doesnt need a firmware update every other month ill be all over it. Last year it looked like we were getting there, the 64GB Crucial M225 originally retailed at less than £100 (wish I had got one then!) and it looked like there would be a bit of a price/performace war. Since then each new drive seems to add very little to performance while the price stays very high and I don't see an end to this cycle until into next year.

These WD SSDs are just another example of similar performance and much too high prices (although by the sounds of it they've got the not updating firmware part down).

This.

I'd argue we're currently moving backwards on ssd's at the moment. Sure performance is increasing, but that doesnt matter if the prices are increasing too. Really wish i'd bought a sub-100 crucial back then

the price of flash isnt getting any better at the moment, that is the main reason we are seeing the prices the way they are.

It's not just SSD pricing which is increasing. Pretty much all component products has increases across the board.

I don't need SSD for the time being until Windows 8 come out!

Ha, an SSD is the single biggest change you can make to your system. Unless you are running ten 1TB HDDs in RAID 0 with a top of the line LSi RAID card, which I'm sure you're not.

Windows 8? lolz, its won't be called that, plus you will be waiting another 3+ years in which case your HDDs will probably make more noise than a swarm of locusts during feeding time.

Well I just ordered one of these 64GB here locally for what works out to be about £148. It should be here in a day or 2, so i'll report back when it's installed.
