Wetherspoons really are **** pits, yes they serve fairly decent beer in that there's a wide range and generally it's not off, yes they're cheap as chips.

But they're just really crap, they attract the dregs of society, the food is just BAD, and they're completely soulless.

Surely the only reason people go to them is because of the prices!

Point to this post, not a lot :p, just gauging if I'm a pub snob, answer is probably yes :)

I only go spoons for the deals they have (£1 for certain bottles of beer). Not a big fan of the food there, the burgers are 'ok' but the rest is mehhh

All the Wetherspoon's I've been to recently have been badly affected by the smoking ban, in as much as that they now all seem to smell of sweaty feet rather than smoke.

Plenty of hot chicks in weatherspoons pubs on a Friday & Saturday night ;)

I wouldn't say the beer is decent, it's cheap for a reason. The food at the local one isn't too bad though.

when I say decent I mean it's not off (most of the time) and it's quite varied. It is served too cold though, and I've had a fair few pints that have tasted watered down

Weatherspoons major saving grace beyond the great prices and the reasonable food is the range of real British beer.

The only time I go to a Wetherspoons is to continue drinking after 11PM...the two local Wetherspoons are open until 1am on Fridays/Saturdays. Yup, they are crap, but the prices are cheap and by the time we arrive (often gone 11.30PM) most of the crwods have moved onto clubs, etc.

Depends on the town, the Henley-on-Thames wetherspoons is quite nice, combined with the prices and its the best place in town really bar the lack of river frontage and moorings which other places offer.

Their food is actually okay, it's not bland, good portions and you don't have to wait long for it.

That's because most of it is done in the microwave :p

To be fair, their steak and chips is usually pretty good value and tasty (they are coincidentally also two of the few things they actually cook)

Totally disagree that spoons attracts the dregs of society. Never had any problems in any of the spoons I've been in, and in general it seems to a fine mix of people. Go into a bad area of Glasgow and pop into one of the pubs with barred up windows and there you are more likely to find your 'dregs of society'. They are generally souless (good company out to sort that out), but quite a few that used to be banks are fantastic buildings inside. The food is a case of get what you pay for, and the alcohol is fine.

Why is it that these forums have a new spoons thread every few weeks. It's fairly simple, if you don't like it don't go.

Certainly agree with this. The Bell in norwich does attract some bad types but if you are around at the right time it's fairly pleasent!

I personally think spoons pubs are great; theyre un-pretentious, cheap, they dont play music in the evening so you can start a night out there and actually talk to people, and the atmosphere in them is relaxed.

If you're looking for gourmet pub food and top quality furnishing, spoons aint your place, but who does look for that at a spoons?!
