Wetherspoons pubs

Ours is pretty decent. The food has always been good, for what it is, and the beer is of good quality. Plus, more often than not they have 'Bearly Literate' on tap.

Nothing wrong with the food at spoons, had lamb shoulder last night and it was goooood.

I go to a wetherspoons pub for lunch in bradford when im out with work and the food greatly varies on how good it is. Burgers are alright, mixed grills are pretty good but the pasta and deserts are just abysmal lol

Just how wrong can you go with micro-waved food anyway? Sounds pretty simple to me and the food has been just fine over here, considering the price. I'm sure every location is different. My local spoons has a good mix of people :)

Oh and they're great if you just want to talk without having to shout over the music blaring out, unlike some places...

I recently just got a job at the Wetherspoons' in town. Don't knock it! :p

I've always found it to be a pretty decent place to drink in, much better than most other chains anyway. Everards are just totally soulless for example.

All the 'spoons around here are disgusting, only reason to go is because of the cheap spirits. Although i will agree their steak and burgers aren't too bad.

Had a lovely BLT with a bottle of Kopparberg for lunch today!

Depends completely on the location - my local one is always full of business type people so it's not too bad at all.

Certainly agree with this. The Bell in norwich does attract some bad types but if you are around at the right time it's fairly pleasent!

Heh, only ever been in there at the start of the night so never seen anything kick off! I think it's alright the few times I've been there but it's only ever for one or two before moving on. The Queen of Iceini (??) down at Riverside is pretty awful though, just gets way too crowded around the bar.

Wouldn't agree with the dregs of society comment, unless you're including all binge drinkers in that :p

No they don't! They serve cheap, short-dated stuff and the people serving it seem utterly incapable of pulling it properly!

Am guessing by decent beer people are meaning things like pints of real ale, Zyviec, Tyskie, Kozel etc etc, none of which is short dated. All the **** for people who like mass produced lager and not beer, eg Stella, Fosters, Carling - it really doesn't taste a whole lot better when it isn't short dated.

The food is decidedly below average in the Newcastle, Sunderland and South Shields Wetherspoons.

I wouldn't say the dregs of society drink in them. Go out in the west end of Newcastle or the east end of sunderland and the bars are full of characters from Star Wars.

I quite like Wetherspoons; they're a whole load better than most chain pubs. No match for a proper real ale pub, of course - but better than H&H or Sizzling or Ember Inns or any of those.

The fact that there are at least 10 of them within a 2 mile radius of me suggests they are still doing well...considering that I don't live in a particularly built up area.

I can assure you they're not cheap, at least not the ones in the southeast of England..

I used to work at one behind the bar, thought it was really nice place, people vary a lot there was always loads of students about (which is always good thing, especially when temp is good ;) ) but of course u do get some scum coming in, always one alcoholic in a pub but they mostly kept to themselves and the food was actually half decent, couldve been a lot worse considering almost everything is stuck in the microwave. Although like Basher said if you ever saw the kitchen you wouldnt order anything in the future.
