Wetherspoons pubs

Breakfast deals.. need I say more. Been to the one in Edinburgh and the one in Derry. Both had pretty decent food. The Derry one seemed like a nicer place though with a good atmosphere.

Good selection of ales, but then everywhere in st albans does. Prices arent bad either, the green king IPA offer was good, not my favourite ale but by no means the least favourite so Im happy. Did have some plonkey standing next to me at the bar who asked for a pint of ipa, pronounced as a word not the letters, me and my friend burst out laughing.

Had the odd funny tasting pint but never seems to be a problem.

Service can be a bit hit and miss as the staff dont seem that well trained.

Food is obviously microwaved but you get what you pay for!

I tend just to go with a few friends

Anone know how many there are in Bristol, seems to be loads, went in one called Commercial Rooms the other day, seemed alright, good choice of beer, and plents of cocktails for the women.

Sometimes I go to one of the quieter ones in Reading if I want a quick drink and food with friends from work as its close by and not as bad as others, the beer is good too, no better than any other pub! but a lot of them are cheap and nasty, filled with alcoholics....still, good if you want to get drunk very quick for very cheap!

Weatherspoon pub can sell the drinks so cheap as they buy the stock which is nearing it's best before date...... hence the savings.

Most beers in our celler have a good 3 - 6 months on the best before date, closest is about a month which considering how much we sell it'll never get near best before date. Where as when I worked at a litten tree pub there was 2 barrels of Strongbow out of date connected up and they charge around 50% more. Wetherspoons are almost religious when it comes to good quaility beer and have a company policy called "The Perfect Serve".

Sticky carpets with teenage spot puss aside... They aren't all that bad you moaners.

Do I really have to say this?(!).... If you want a nice place to take the girlfriend out or treat yourself then obviously a weatherspoon isn't it.

But if you want quick not bad food and very cheap drinks then it is the place to go.. the food really isn't THAT bad. Tikka masala on thursday nights curry club is quite nice. Some of their dishes out do harvester and are a slash in price. (Not to say Harvester is anything special!)

It's a good place to start the night simply due to the cheap drinks. There's a lot of alchies in my local during the day though. The food isn't bad, you get what you pay for basically.

99P for a bottle of san miguel gets me in :D

Also the one in sheffield has a fairly big outside bit upstairs with a huge plasma screen with sky sports news on, so Saturday nights are sorted :)

That was my thought process, ended up leaving half of it. They also do San Miguel bottles for 99p though, which is excellent.

Sadly my local one (Henley) doesn't follow the national pricing structure, so although cheap, its not 99p.

The Catherine Wheel? Its a Lloyds isnt it? I know they are the same thing but I think the pricing is different. The Greene King IPA is still 99p in there.
The Catherine Wheel is one of the worst offenders for attracting "chav scum".

we've just had one open in town, it used to be a cinema called the Hippodrome, then a Kwik Save now a pub.

It's nice enough, decent food and still quite popular as well with people from all my only complaint is that it is so bleedin dark!

Its £1.50 for that IPA stuff last time i checked, perhaps the Lloyds thing is why the pricing seems slightly higher - i assumed it was due to higher location costs than usual or something as i notice that central London locations have the same pricing.

The "chav scum" is inevitable given that it is the cheapest place, but this is very limited due to there being hardly any of them in town and is certainly not too noticeable on a busy evening.

I wouldn't say the beer is decent, it's cheap for a reason. The food at the local one isn't too bad though.

And what reason would that be? :)

I will never in in 'spoons again after I went into one of their kitchens.

Out of interest, what did you see? I've found that Wetherspoon's kitchens are some of the cleanest around, if they're managed properly. Don't let one bad experience tar the whole company.

Spent a fair while in the one in Newcastle and got to say that I'm a fan.

I can't stand packed bars with nowhere to sit, bars that charge me £3.50 for a pint of half decent Euro brew, bars where its £2.50 for a shot of decent vodka, bars with pretentious half wits queueing to get in and bars with a dj playing funky house all night.

I goto bars to drink decent beer with mates and Weatherspoons fits the bill perfectly.

Food is a bit crap though with the exception of curry night and that huge platter thing they do. But then most chain pubs have poor food.

Its not due to location costs....Henleys not that posh that they charge more for alcohol in a spoons/lloyds.
Theres plenty of chavs in Henley, its only a 5 minute walk from the council estate to the centre of town, plus its visited by neighouring towns like maidenhead...not sure how long youve been living there but it certainly is noticable, especially on friday and saturdays nights.

I haven't been in one for a while (probably heading on for 6 months now) but the beer is fine with some interesting selections occasionally, the prices are good and the food is reasonable. The reason I don't go into them more often is simply that there are other pubs closer to where I want to be in town that I prefer.

It wasn't so much about the clenliness (although that wasn't super) it was more about just how much rubbish is in the food.
