We've now outdone Spinal Tap - bloody drummers

I've been with the band for six years and in that time we've had six drummers.
One was nuts, one died (RIP Paul), one gave us one minute notice to go with a band who can't get gigs now, one had woman trouble, one had an ego that was larger than Dave Lee Roths and the new drummer has just given his notice in because another band has offered more money and he is having money problems :(
Before I joined, the band was together for eight years and they went through six drummers.

If anybody out there in the Staffordshire area knows any good rock drummers then get in touch.

You actually make money with your pub cover band and pay wages?

its pretty easy to make money with a band, most pubs will pay you to play if it will bring in more money for them :)

Pub bands bring in a small wage but its not enough to live on imho.

^ yeah, even if you're gigging in pubs every single night of the week i doubt you'd get enough to go round the band and live on at all.

just saw that drummer you were talking about on TV dave, pretty interesting. was that his own kit too?

Yeah, I know we aren't that good but anybody can earn money in Stoke.

We get an average of 30 to 40 pound each and a rock band is lucky to get two gigs a week in this area. A trio will obviously earn more per man. If I went back to solo work I could be earning up to £150 a night and play about 4/5 times a week.

Apparently, the drummers Dad is a millionaire.

Slight thread hijack :- Any plans to play at hanley weatherspoons? Been going past few weeks and its normally gets a decent crowd. Fav band thats played there is called Storm - apparently the guitarist used to play with ozzie. Might just be pub hype tho.

We played there about 6 weeks ago and will be playing later this year. The old guy on the Half Flying V is called Slim and his daughter is the manageress. Slim organises all the bands at Weatherspoons and he loves us even though we knicked his drummer. Him and the manager have asked us to do a set dedicated to AC/DC but I'm getting rather fed up being known locally as the guy that does AC/DC.
I don't know about the guy in Storm but the guitarist in Giantz who played there 8 weeks ago did have auditions for Ozzy. Storms other guitarist was watching us play and he isn't old enough to have been with Ozzy to be honest - unless you're talking about Slim.

UPDATE -
Just got off the phone with Slim and its pub hype I'm afraid. He does know Ozzy and he even went to see Queen with him back in 77. He also mentioned Trevalyn in Giantz who you might have heard the rumour about but he didn't even have an audition. He sent tapes and Sharon sent a nice letter back. Nice to know that Slim says we are his top band and he has got 3 dates for us for next year.

Broken Bones were good in their day. I play drums btw, well, used to a few years ago.

Well, you can always have an audition because no doubt he probably won't last long.
You've seen us live, do you think we wear drummers out?

I DON'T BLOODY BELIEVE IT.

The latest drummer has just given us 6 weeks notice :(
We're just a breeding ground for poachers :(

It seems that every one of them are money motivated and want the most out of one gig.
We average out about 5/6 gigs a month and the last four drummers have left because they were getting about a 20% rise per gig eg Instead of £40 they would get £50.
Two of the four joined bands where they have an average of one gig a month  so do the homework.
Our latest drummer is leaving for a band which the members are known to wander off every couple of months to new ventures so good luck to him..

if i was closer id fill the gap, but im too busy with band work as it is, things are going well atm.

Shocking mate.

best drummer I have heard for ages is a drummer called Ritchie, he's blind and plays wit hthe "Notourious Brothers". The lead in that band is something else too, very very impressed with it.

not that it helps you in any way shape or form, but you might of heard them ?

Sorry to hambush the thread, but anyone know anyone in need of a drummer between York and Newcastle (upon tyne, not the under lyme one)?

I'd stand in for you if i was down there :)

I have heard that name before and I've heard good things about them.
Didn't know the drummer was blind though.

Just had a drummer on the phone who said he'd love to join us and splitting the money five ways is not a problem.
We'll have to see how good he is now.

HURRAH.

The drummer came up to audition tonight and he was 9/10. He said that money isn't a problem and he's wanted to join us for ages. We're going to make him sign a contract to stay with us for at least two years :D

Anyway, a tip for you young musos going to auditions -

Last year this same guy came to audition for us and he was awful. He hadn't got a clue what we did and didn't know any of the songs we played. We had a hard time going from A to B in a song let alone the C, D and E's.
Tonight he came knowing 15 of our songs and played them really well. Yes there were mistakes but theres a major difference between mistakes and not knowing.

So, just like a Boy Scout, 'Be prepared' when going to auditions because you'll be surprised how many people aren't.

Really really good, if they are in your area go see them. They were part of a semi successful US band in the 80's, and reformed. For the local scene.

They then found Ritchie (blind drummer) and carried on the name. Really something to listen to and I've never heard a better guitarest live, than I have with Melvin. Pure genious, very spontanious, and improvises a lot. Was so impressed:

i know linking to myspace is bad, but I've not actually see ntheir myspace before today (can't listen as I'm at work) hopefully it will be a decent representation of what they can do live:

I know who they are now.
We supported them at a Bike Rally about 3 years ago and they are very good.

Cool, well who knows, I might catch one of your gigs when you are in the area. Me and the girlfriend (who's a guitar teacher) quite often like to go to local gigs, we'll definately be seeing these again too.
