Planning on getting an i7 920 and 12gb ram for this motherboard.

I've been told having 12gb ram limits overclocking potential although stock i7 920 should be fast enough for what I need.

Can someone advise which 12gb ram bundle will be ok for this motherboard? I've been told 1300mhz is the max speed of ram for this board does this mean the 1600mhz stuff from ocuk will default to this speed?

thanks

Hello again ;)

1300MHz isn't the max for that board, I'm running 6G @1600MHz CAS8. Having 6 sticks might limit the speed though, that's the grey area I'm unsure about.

I am running this board with OCZ 12GB Kit (6x2048) PC3-12800 RAM Low Voltage CL 8-8-8-24 with the gold XTC Heatspreader

I found that the board with run at 1333mhz with no problem on low volts and my 1600 mhz memory default to this speed OK

I can push higher memory speed, but I need much higher volts to get stable on my chip.

ok, so memory speed will default to 1333mhz thats what I was confused about cause the 12gb kits i've seen are rated higher. thanks for clearing that up.

When I was booting first with 12GB installed it was defaulting to 1066Mhz, all you do is increase the memory speed back up 1333mhz or better. But you will need to play with timmings and volts to get stable.
