As topic really as they are pretty much the same price so whats the best (i.e. least likely to fail) 1tb hard drive out there at the moment?

It will be used for data storage only.

Thanks in advance.

They'll all fail eventually, and nobody can say what drive you buy today will still be going in 3 years time. The trouble is ALL manufacturers produce 'bad' batches at one time or another, the problem only comes to light a year or two down the line. They fix the issue but by that time the particualr drive have a bad rep. So it goes round in cycles.

I would just buy the best value drive you can, assume it might fail at any time and use a backup strategy to mitigate any potential loss.

I am purchasing a 1tb drive in the next couple of days and have settled on the samsung spinpoint. It seems to have a good balance of everything you need for a data storage drive. I know they have had a bad batch but i assume they have been sorted now and the reviews for it have been mostly favourable as well as it being one of the cheaper drives to buy at the minute. If anyone that has one has some useful pointers i and the OP would appreciate them :).
