What 360 drive is this?

I'm really confused, this is my 360 that I got in early 2007 (before the Falcon) after my 360 had the RROD.

The disc drive makes clicking noises, it's louder than my launch console and after looking at noise comparisons of each of the drives on youtube I believe it is a Hitachi. However it doesn't look like the Hitachi and if you go to the URL below it doesn't match any of the drives.

Because of the clicking noises and the scratches that it makes on my discs I think it's a Hitachi or maybe a Samsung. I'm going to get it replaced with a Falcon at my store (I have a 3 year store guarantee) and I hope to get the slightly quieter benq drive even though it's still bloody loud (as seen on youtube :s).

What bugs me is the excuse where people defend the 360 saying that the drive is fine because they play their games with the music really loud. However many people play their consoles at night and have other people sleeping in their house and it's distracting and annoying, but that discussion has already been on here before. Obviously this won't change because of the speed of the drive but I just posted this to find out what drive this was.

Thanks!

I have a 360 Elite, Falcon... and looking at that site its a BenQ Drive... and its as noisy as hell! :(

Not reading the disc, dont hear clicks or anything... but the spinup noise... and it doesnt spin down... just constantly noisy!!

Apart from that... i love the console :D

looks like the samsung to me.

I'm an idiot, your right. How did i not notice that, I kept thinking it looked different but I only looked at the pictures side by side after you said that :D

Anyway, that site doesn't really say what the loudest drive is.

I know the Benq is the most quiet one, but what's the loudest between the Hitachi and Samsung?

No wonder my 360 has been so loud and scratching my discs, I also had disc errors with Forza 2 and I sold it because I got so frustrated with it.

Look on the bright side... you won't have to wait 5mins for GTA4 to install, it's one of the perks of having a hideously loud console. ;)

My old 360 (RIP) had a Samsung drive so I can relate, it was horrible. I was hoping for a new model with Bluray drive built in, but looks like they're sticking with the £10 jobbies to maximise profit.

I'm guessing that was a joke because of the wink :p I'd take a 5 minute install any day over having a quieter console. I don't see what the big deal is about that as it's just 5 minutes, I'm getting GTA4 on PS3 because the 360 is far too loud for me but that's a discussion for another thread.

It's sad because the games are great and they still can't get the hardware right. If it's during the day and I'm playing Bioshock loud it's bliss but if it's at night it's distracting. At least it won't make stupid clicking noises when I get a Falcon :)

Might consider picking up Forza again as I sold it because it wouldn't play the disc.

Also got a Samsung drive here, also very noisy and also scratches disks (it ruined my Forza 2 altough video rental place I bought F2 from swapped it for me), although it hasn't scratched anything since it had the new GPU cooler fitted after 3ROD. I use my 360 past 11pm at night sometimes too, which means other people are sleeping and the TV volume has to be low, and the noise of the 360 is really excessive in a situation like that.

A setting to limit the drive speed would have been nice, I'd choose longer load times over the noise anyday.

My 1st 360 had a samsung drive and that scratched my disks :( so i had the 360 replaced and now have a hitachi drive, no problems yet.

i used to have my xbox horizontal but it contributed to a lot of heat so now i always have it on vertical and it never scratch discs. it read all my games smoothly

I have my 360 on its side although its on a glass desk so air flow is good.

My drive is a BenQ and it has never scratched a disk yet.

I have a BenQ drive and it's a lot quieter than my old Hitachi.

It's strange that on the original xbox, the Samsung was the best one to have, but with the 360 it's the worst.
